Contract Unix Engineer - Financial Services - Sheffield (Hybrid, 1 Day Onsite) - 6-Month Contract (Umbrella)

We are seeking an experienced Unix Engineer for a 6-month initial contract with a leading financial services client. This role is hybrid, requiring one day per week onsite in Sheffield, and will be engaged via an umbrella company.

Key Responsibilities:

* Install, configure, troubleshoot, and patch middle-tier applications on a Linux environment.

* Configure storage on Unix/Linux, preferably on RHEL 6/7/8.

* Install and configure Veritas Cluster Server as per group standards.

* Collaborate on projects to implement new tools and automation solutions.

* Provide consultancy support to improve system resilience and implement approved recommendations.

* Participate in weekend, overnight, and production support as required for releases, patching, and OS migrations.

* Work with application teams on Observability setups (Dashboards, Monitoring, Self-Healing solutions).

* Utilize Observability tools such as Splunk, AppDynamics, and ThousandEyes.

* Automate deployments through scripting to reduce manual operational tasks.

* Communicate tool capabilities and best practices effectively to stakeholders.

* Ensure adherence to policies, procedures, and regulatory compliance.

Required Skills & Experience:

* 8+ years of experience as a Linux System Administrator.

* Expertise in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL 8.x/7.x/6.x).

* 5+ years experience with Veritas Foundation Suite / InfoScale and Veritas Cluster Server.

* Experience with Enterprise Storage (SAN/NAS) - EMC VMAX, NetApp NAS.

* Strong knowledge of LVM (Logical Volume Manager) and VMware.

* Familiarity with ServiceNow, Confluence, and Jira.

* Proficiency in at least one scripting language (e.g., Bash, Python).

* Strong understanding of networking fundamentals.

* Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

* Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.

* Ability to update technical documentation.

Desirable Skills:

* Experience with Ansible, Puppet, Oracle, and Storage Management.
