SEMH Teaching Assistant

Job Type: Full-time
Salary: £88 - £100 per day (depending on experience)
About the Role:
Teach Match is currently recruiting compassionate, resilient, and dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistants to work in specialist and alternative provision schools across Birmingham and surrounding areas. These roles are ideal for individuals passionate about supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

Key Responsibilities:
Support students with SEMH needs, both 1:1 and in small groups
Build positive, trusting relationships to support emotional regulation
Implement behaviour strategies and tailored interventions based on EHCPs
Encourage positive engagement in learning through patience and understanding
De-escalate challenging behaviours calmly and professionally
Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and outside agencies to monitor progress
Create a safe, structured, and therapeutic learning environment
Requirements:
Previous experience as an SEMH Teaching Assistant, youth mentor, pastoral support, or similar (preferred)
Confidence in managing behaviours and supporting emotional wellbeing
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure
Knowledge of trauma-informed practice or experience with attachment difficulties is a plus
Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply for one through Teach Match)
Team player with a hands-on and flexible approach
Relevant training (e.g., Team Teach, MAPA, Level 2/3 TA) is beneficial but not essential
