Operations Director - Construction & Contracting
Are you an experienced operations leader with a strong background in contracts management? Do you have the ability to drive project success, lead teams effectively, and ensure contracts are delivered on time and within budget?
We are seeking an Operations Director to oversee and develop operational teams, ensuring the successful planning, management, and execution of contracts. This is a fantastic opportunity for a proactive and results-driven professional to make a significant impact in the contracting and construction sector.
Key Responsibilities:
Pre-Commencement:
✅ Provide operational input into bid submissions and marketing content.
✅ Attend tender adjudications, advising on programme and cost risks.
✅ Ensure contract programmes are developed and communicated effectively, identifying and mitigating potential risks.
Contract Delivery:
✅ Oversee project workload, ensuring efficient resource planning.
✅ Manage sub-contractor allocation and performance.
✅ Support site teams by providing the necessary resources for project success.
✅ Ensure accurate and up-to-date reporting and record-keeping.
✅ Review progress reports and assess performance.
✅ Provide technical and contractual support on-site when required.
Health, Safety, Quality & Environment (HSQE):
✅ Ensure all work complies with current HSQE legislation and company policies.
✅ Lead by example, promoting safe working practices to minimise incidents.
✅ Influence and contribute to the development of company policies and procedures.
Commercial:
✅ Work with contract managers and commercial teams to develop project forecasts.
✅ Identify and communicate potential claims or variations to the commercial team and clients.
✅ Review contract performance to ensure financial targets are met.
✅ Support the commercial team in resolving contractual or legal matters.
✅ Approve supplier and subcontractor orders within the finance system.
What We're Looking For:
🔹 Qualifications - HNC or degree in a construction-related subject. Membership of a professional body (e.g. Institution of Demolition Engineers, Chartered Institute of Building) is desirable.
🔹 Health & Safety - IOSH Managing Safely and IOSH Directing Safely qualifications required.
🔹 Experience - Proven track record in contracts and operations management, ideally in the demolition or enabling works sectors.
🔹 Leadership Skills - Ability to manage and develop teams, drive performance improvements, and lead by example.
🔹 Communication - Strong presentation, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
🔹 Problem-Solving - Ability to identify challenges, implement solutions, and make informed decisions.
🔹 Technical Proficiency - Comfortable using Microsoft Office and project programming software.
🔹 Driving Licence - Full UK driving licence required.
