Financial Controller

A leading media and events business is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to oversee the financial operations and ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting. The ideal candidate will manage year-end processes, prepare statutory accounts, and maintain tax compliance. Proficiency in accounting principles and finance software is essential.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Manage and develop the Sales Ledger Controller and Purchase Ledger Controller.
  • Ensure financial reporting is accurate and compliant with FRS102.
  • Develop and maintain robust financial controls.
  • Oversee reconciliations of all balance sheet items, including bank reconciliations.
  • Handle nominal account adjustments such as accruals and prepayments.
  • Maintain the Netsuite Finance system, ensuring all daily processes and controls are in place.
  • Oversee the purchase ledger function, with support from a Purchase Ledger Controller.
  • Oversee the sales ledger function and integration between the Hubspot CRM and Netsuite finance system.
  • Liaise with customers and suppliers as necessary.
  • Ensure tax regulation compliance and prepare/submit quarterly UK VAT returns.
  • Support the preparation of year-end statutory accounts and liaise with auditors as a key contact point.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Fully qualified chartered accountant (ACA/ACCA).
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Finance department.
  • Previous senior accountancy role with responsibility for managing Finance staff.
  • Expertise in month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Experience in preparing statutory accounts and liaising with auditors.
  • Proficient in submitting VAT returns.
  • Ability to manage and implement change within financial systems.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to foster a collaborative team culture.
  • Knowledge of Netsuite/Hubspot CRM accounting software is advantageous.
  • Experience in the media and events industry is beneficial.
