We are working with one of the world's leading research institutes to recruit for this brand-new position to join their senior leadership team. The postholder will have ultimate responsible for the delivery infrastructure for the institute and lead on unifying areas to create an effective operating model, maximising capabilities to support the institute's innovation goals. These areas currently include:

  • Data Wrangling: Oversee data strategy and implementation, health data management, and promote diversity in data research.
  • Programme Management Unit: Manage and deliver high-quality research projects, training, and knowledge exchange in data science and AI.
  • Research Engineering Group: Support research through software engineering, data science, and computing.
  • Tools, Practices, and Systems (TPS): Build accessible open-source infrastructure and promote best practices in data science and AI.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and delivering the organisation's strategy, particularly in research and knowledge exchange
  • Ensuring operational support for all research initiatives
  • Advising on trends in data science, AI, and related technologies
  • Supporting strategic research funding opportunities
  • Transforming operations within the Science and Innovation infrastructure areas
  • Managing and developing the Infrastructure Directors
  • Overseeing strategic planning and financial analysis
  • Promoting a culture of equality, diversity, and inclusion
  • Participating in Executive Leadership Team activities and staff engagement initiatives

The successful candidate will have:

  • Significant experience of leading complex operational support teams
  • Demonstrable experience understanding and resolving research challenges, including developing and implementing funding strategies
  • Experience implementing strategic organisational change
  • Expertise in at least one of the following areas: computational infrastructure, data infrastructure, data standards, research/software engineering, or project management
  • Background in research, higher education, science organisations, public funding, government or research-focused industry
