Arboriculture Team Leader

£16.62 per hour

3 Months Contract

To assist with tree inspections, surveys and in the management of the operational Arboricultural Service, ensuring effective and efficient service delivery and high standards of customer service

MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist the Senior Arboricultural Officer in the operational management of the Arboricultural service, ensuring service activities are completed on schedule and in accordance with service standards and Policy/Procedures.

Carry out operational duties, as required, to ensure efficient service delivery.

Undertake staff training and tool box talks as directed by the Senior Arboricultural Officer including staff inductions, use of equipment and other on the job training.

Assist the Senior Arboricultural Officer with managing staff.

Deal with any issues that arise in respect of employee relations and conduct, informing/escalating to the Senior Arboricultural Officer as appropriate.

Motivate staff towards the achievement of service goals and delivery of a high standard of service to the residents of Darlington.

Undertake service monitoring.

Encourage feedback from staff regarding opportunities for continuous improvement of processes and working practices.

Ensure compliance with technical specifications, quality standards and the implementation of a programme of work.

Ensure that works are carried out with due regard to environmental issues and the latest environmental regulations

Carry out tree surveys/inspections, prepare maintenance programmes and update the tree management system.

Investigate and respond to all enquiries and complaints concerning trees throughout the Borough, as directed by the Senior Arboricultural Officer.

Meet with members of the public on site as a representative to discuss their concerns and complaints.

Assist the Senior Arboricultural Officer with the development and implementation of a tree strategy.

Identify the quality of new tree stock and design planting programmes.

Liaise with Elected Members, officers from other departments and other organisations, on all aspects of tree work.

Control contracts by issuing schedules of work, agreeing prices for additional work and confirming variations, as directed by the Senior Arboricultural Officer.

Behave according to the Employees' Code of Conduct and ensure that employees in your team are aware of their obligations and responsibilities re. conflicts of interest, gifts, hospitality and other matters covered by the Code.

Supervise your team in line with Policies and Procedures to ensure that employees are aware of their obligations under these.

Qualifications & Education

NPTC or equivalent tree climbing qualification

Certification/training in the application of chemical to treat tree stump or ability to obtain within reasonable period of commencing employment

NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a relevant subject, e.g. arboriculture, forestry

First Aid certification

Customer Care training
Relevant Health and Safety Management Training, e.g. IOSH
