A leading independent boarding and day school for girls aged 3 - 18 with a co-ed preschool in Winchester, Hampshire. Catering for just over 900 students and teachers daily. Our core feeding offer is breakfast, Mid Morning Snack, Lunch, dinner, Match teas, Hospitality and external lettings throughout the year. This is a 7 days a week operation so shift patterns would usually be 5 over 7 days. This location offers a mix of term time roles along with full 52 weeks contracts. This location benefits from free parking on site.

We currently have a fantastic opportunity for a Food Stores and Delivery Service Assistant to join our established & friendly team at our prestigious locations in Winchester.


Role requirements (Task & Responsibilities):

  • Effective managing of all stores and efficient timeous delivery of food and general supplies to various departments across the location in line with customer orders.
  • Receiving all deliveries from suppliers and checking the goods received are in good condition with strict control on food, health and safety critical control points.
  • Effective management of FIFO/stock rotation inline with food safety standards.
  • Liaising with suppliers about deliveries and discrepancies in stock
  • Keeping detailed records of shortages and spares of items
  • Keeping detailed records of delivery temperatures and storge temperature of foods stuffs and refrigerated equipment to maintain temperature chain throughout.
  • Updating inventory management systems regularly with regular stock counts.
  • Organising and delivering goods from the store to the department that requires it, picking all goods in accordance to customer orders and delivering goods across location using a food safe electric vehicle.
  • Helping the kitchen brigade to prepare the Sandwiches for Grab & Go following good hygiene and safety practices and to the standard specified.
  • Assist with preparing, set-up, serve, clear, clean and store away any food, beverage or equipment required for special functions.
  • Restock and replenish stocks and consumables as required, pre-empt customer needs and achieve optimum customer service delivery.
  • Keep the kitchen informed of any food, and non-consumable products running out and pre-empt any delays in customer waiting.
  • Properly clean all stores, keeping work space tidy at all times
  • Operate cleaning/dishwashing equipment. Properly clean and store equipment, service, preparation and storage areas.
  • Complete all / any necessary cleaning/hygiene duties.
  • Serve customers, visitors and guests in line with company and client service standards and expectations
  • Empty, remove and store rubbish / recycle rubbish in the correct place.
  • Prepare laundry to be collected and put clean laundry away when required.

General Responsibilities

  • Ensure attendance to all staff meetings as required.
  • Ensure that all policies and procedural requirements of both legislation and company are adhered to in order to promote a professional and flexible approach at all times.
  • Ensure that the correct uniform is worn neatly and cleanly at all times.
  • Ensure all necessary checks are carried out in the service and associated areas for food temperatures.
  • Carry out all reasonable request of the management.
  • As required provide cover for other staff during periods of absence.
  • Be conscientious with regard to Health & Safety and report any hazards to the manager.

PERSON SPECIFICATION (Skills, Competencies & Abilities)

  • Team working abilities, listening skills, the ability to work on own initiative, impeccable personal presentation, hygiene and behaviour to others, Food hygiene certificate preferred.
  • The ability to be adaptable and be flexible as necessary. Reliable, Honest and able to demonstrate an open attentive approach to customer service.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and take some responsibility.
  • Ability to manage some moderately heavy lifting, carrying, and pushing.

Knowledge / competencies

  • Ability to demonstrate reasonable / good understanding and use of verbal English.
  • Ability to demonstrate reasonable / good standard of written English and reading skills.
  • Similar experience of customer and / or food preparation environment is preferred.
