Job Title: Yard Supervisor (Timber Industry)

Location: Purfleet, Essex

Salary: £30,000 - £33,000 (negotiable depending on experience)

Shifts: Rotating shifts:

- 6:00 AM - 3:00 PM

- 1:00 PM - 10:00 PM

- 10:00 PM - 6:00 AM

Job Description:

We are seeking a motivated and experienced **Yard Supervisor** to join our team at a busy timber distribution centre in **Purfleet, Essex**. The successful candidate will oversee the day-to-day operations of our yard, ensuring efficient picking and distribution of timber products. This is a hands-on role that requires strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Supervise Yard Operations: Oversee all yard activities, including the organization, storage, and distribution of timber products.

-Manage Pick and Distribution Process: Ensure efficient and accurate picking and packing of orders, maintaining productivity and safety standards.

- Team Leadership: Lead and motivate a team of yard operatives across rotating shifts, ensuring smooth shift handovers and clear communication between teams.

- Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure all safety regulations are followed, conducting regular risk assessments and safety checks within the yard.

- Stock Management: Monitor inventory levels, coordinating with other departments to ensure timely replenishment and minimizing shortages.

- Shift Management: Coordinate and supervise activities across rotating shifts (day, evening, and night shifts), ensuring coverage and operational continuity.

- Equipment Maintenance: Ensure all equipment, including forklifts and machinery, is properly maintained and in safe working order.

- Customer Service: Liaise with transport teams and customers to ensure timely and accurate deliveries.

Requirements:

- Experience: Previous experience in a supervisory role within a yard, warehouse, or distribution setting (preferably in the timber industry).

- Leadership Skills: Strong leadership and team management abilities with the capacity to motivate and develop staff.

- Health & Safety Knowledge: Solid understanding of health and safety regulations, with experience conducting risk assessments.

- Communication: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for interacting with staff and customers.

- Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

- Flexibility: Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights and weekends, as required.

Desirable:

- Forklift license or experience operating heavy machinery.

- Experience with stock management systems.
