Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Director of Communications to join a dynamic London Council, taking on a leadership role in shaping and transforming how the Council communicates with residents, staff, and external partners. You will be at the forefront of delivering strategic communications that enhance the Council's reputation, engage residents, and align with the Council's corporate plan,

The successful candidate will manage internal and external communications, media relations, social media, content production, and crisis management. You'll play a key role in reshaping public perceptions of the Council, ensuring the delivery of clear, engaging messages across multiple platforms, and building strong media and community partnerships.

Key Responsibilities:

* Lead the development and implementation of the Council's communications strategy, ensuring alignment with corporate priorities.

* Oversee internal communications to engage and motivate staff, turning them into ambassadors for the Council's vision and values.

* Manage media relations, proactively building strong contacts to showcase positive Council initiatives and mitigating reputational risks.

* Oversee the Council's social media presence, ensuring a strategic and performance-driven approach to content and engagement.

* Lead on the production of innovative content for digital, print, and multimedia platforms, ensuring consistent branding and storytelling.

* Provide 24/7 crisis and emergency communications support, enhancing the Council's reputation management protocols.

* Work collaboratively with senior officers and external partners to achieve integrated campaign goals and service priorities.

Key Tasks and Accountabilities:

* Provide professional expertise and advice to the Mayor, Members, the Chief Executive, and senior officers on all communications matters.

* Deliver integrated campaigns that improve the Council's reputation and engage key stakeholders.

* Ensure the Council's communications reflect its commitment to transparency, inclusivity, and serving residents.

* Manage budget oversight and ensure cost-effective delivery of communications functions.

* Lead a diverse team of professionals across multiple communications disciplines, ensuring high standards of performance and development.

Experience and Skills Required:

* A successful track record of leading communications services within a politically complex organization.

* Proven experience in managing media relations, social media, and internal communications.

* Strong leadership and people management skills, with a focus on team development and performance.

* Experience in crisis communications and reputation management, with the ability to handle sensitive issues effectively.

* Expertise in managing budgets, delivering value for money, and contributing to the overall Council's goals.

Other Information:

* This is a politically restricted post, and the postholder must refrain from any political activities.

* The role may require working outside normal business hours, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays
