Teaching Assistant - Pupil Referral Unit (PRU)
Location: Across Central Birmingham Campuses (B10, B12, B23, B32)
Pay: From £105 per day
Contract: Full-Time, Ongoing

Long Term Futures is proud to be working in partnership with a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) that operates across multiple campuses in central Birmingham. This forward-thinking provision supports around 440 pupils referred by the Local Authority - each with their own complex story and educational needs.

These pupils may be:

Permanently excluded or at risk of exclusion

On an EHCP for behavioural, emotional or social difficulties

Experiencing anxiety, depression or school-related trauma

'Looked After' with no school placement

Facing court involvement or remand

Coping with a wide range of learning barriers and life challenges

About the Role:

As a Teaching Assistant, you'll work closely with students on a 1:1 and small group basis, supporting not just academic learning but also emotional regulation, behaviour, and confidence building. This role is perfect for someone who is calm under pressure, empathetic, and passionate about inclusive education.

What You'll Be Doing:

Supporting students both inside and outside of the classroom, creating a safe and encouraging space
Assisting with personalised learning activities tailored to each student's needs
Promoting positive behaviour strategies and helping students re-engage with education
Working closely with teaching staff, SENCOs, and external professionals
Helping pupils develop life skills, self-esteem and independence

Who We're Looking For:

Experience in PRUs, SEMH settings, or alternative provision is highly desirable
Confident supporting pupils with challenging behaviour and complex needs
Able to build trusting relationships with vulnerable learners
Resilient, patient, and a great team player
A Teaching Assistant qualification is beneficial, but your attitude and experience are most important
