JOB TYPE: Full time, Permanent                 HOURS: 40 hours a week, Term Time only  

In this SEN Teaching assistant role, you will play a crucial role in supporting autistic students aged 11 – 16 who have associated behavioural and communication difficulties, and some with multiple learning difficulties. This role is ideal for someone passionate about making a significant impact in the lives of students with special educational needs.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Take responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils according to the school’s policies, including safeguarding and PREVENT.
  • Provide meaningful feedback on pupil behaviour, relationships, and attitudes.
  • Support positive behaviour and concentration levels of the children and adapt own behaviour and responses to any change or escalations in behaviour of the children.
  • Establish a positive relationship with pupils to support them in feeling safe and enabling them to enjoy and learn.
  • Promote and encourage independence and personal development while maintaining high expectations of behaviour at all times.
  • Implement, and when appropriate, adjust learning activities as agreed with the teacher.
  • Support learning by arranging/providing resources for lessons/activities under the direction of the teacher.
  • Reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers and support the delivery of a broad and balanced curriculum aiming at pupils achieving their full potential in all areas of learning.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Experience working with SEN in an employed or voluntary setting.
  • A recognised qualification at Level 2 or above in Support work for Teaching and Learning in Schools or an equivalent is desirable.
  • GCSE Maths and English Language qualification minimum Grade 4 or equivalent is essential.
  • Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures.
  • Knowledge or experience of pupils with SEN or SEMH/ASD.
  • Ability to provide consistent support to our children.
  • The desire to put the child first and treat them as an individual.
  • Be positive and creative in assisting to meet pupils’ individual needs.
  • Ability to take part in the school’s behaviour support approach, including physical intervention (accredited Team Teach) where necessary and always as a last resort.
  • Ability to complete reports in a timely and accurate manner.
