The role of Trading Analyst will play a key part in the optimisation and front office management of our clients’ LNG portfolio.

The individual will be responsible for supporting the LNG Trading team including identifying physical LNG optimisations, generating exposure and P/L analysis for trades, and ad hoc desk requirements in support of the maximisation of PnL.

The candidate will be part of the LNG Trading desk, working alongside Traders as well as other members of the LNG business as well as the middle and back-office functions, in a collaborative and open manner.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Optimise the physical LNG portfolio to improve operational efficiency and extract incremental commercial value.
  • Perform valuation and feasibility analysis of potential trades.
  • Monitor and validate deal and book exposures to ensure accurate positions and reporting.
  • Co-ordinate effectively with trading analysts and other relevant teams to ensure consistency of approach and alignment with spot, medium and corporate assumptions.
  • Assist Traders in generating sustainable ways of optimising contractual terms.
  • Identify and rectify system errors
  • Work with Operations on logistical problem resolution and flag to Traders if commercial intervention is required.
  • Support the management of existing LNG portfolio and ensure an efficient interface with other members of the LNG business
  • Identify and assist in projects to improve the competitiveness and efficiency of the LNG business
  • Verify deal entry accuracy and monitor P&L and exposures
  • Always remain compliant with requirements of compliance, code of conduct and regulatory requirements.
  • Function as team-player and foster a collaborative and open working environment across the LNG business.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a highly numerate subject
  • Experience in a trading environment, preferably LNG and physical gas, gained within an oil and energy major, utility or commodity trading house
  • Experience in supporting commercial decision-making, ideally in a commodity trading environment
  • Understanding of valuation, pricing, risk and optionality embedded in commodity transactions and related derivative positions
  • Understanding of logistical optimisation algorithms, ideally in LNG or but potentially in shipping, or from academia
  • Experience of working with ETRMs to represent complex commodity positions
  • Data engineering and visualisation experience in python or similar common programming languages.
  • Understanding of the LNG market and its commercial and operational characteristics
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent Excel skills
  • Pro-active and positive attitude to problem solving and process improvements
  • Analytical with strong attention to detail
  • Entrepreneurial and extremely driven
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
