This role will provide you with an invaluable opportunity to gain experience of working for two London councils in a single role whilst at the same time managing a significant contract.

About the role 

Leadership and Management

Previous leadership experience is required as you’ll be managing 3 direct reports (Transactional Services Managers) and a wider team of approximately 20 supporting staff.

Project Management/ Contract Management

The post centres around project/ contract management and working with a variety of stakeholders. This will require you to ensure the robustness of the agreed KPIs of the contract with Capita are maintained and challenged where required. 

General payment systems and payment functions

You’ll need to demonstrate an understanding of general payment systems and payment functions which is essential to oversee the three sub teams within transactional services. You’ll also be overseeing the General Ledger team which looks after the non treasury side of the Council’s banking.

Quality improvement

You’ll be an active member of the management team, supporting the Chief Accountant in the continuous improvement in the Accountancy Service through project work, and the planning and implementation of quality improvement initiatives.

Regulatory compliance

Complying with reporting requirements and financial regulations combined with experience of local authority accounting which is advantageous.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • Good interpersonal skills to liaise with Directors, external auditors, contractors and service managers.
  • An understanding of why effective contract management is essential in achieving value for money in a local authority environment.
  • Experience of project management across a multi-disciplinary environment (e.g. experience of managing a project with another department or organisation).
  • Ability to demonstrate a track record of applying good analytical skills and lateral thinking to develop creative and innovative system solutions.
  • The ability to compile and present performance measurement data in way that ensures effective feedback to the contractor.
  • Proficient IT skills to use spreadsheets, financial systems and other relevant packages for analysis and presentation.

Additional information:  

Our offices are in the Grade II listed building of Wandsworth Town Hall which is centrally located in the heart of vibrant Wandsworth Town.  Just a 10 minute bus journey from Clapham Junction, or under a 10 minute walk to Wandsworth Town Station where direct trains are 15 minutes to London Waterloo. The Accountancy Service is currently working between home locations and the office.
