About the Pub

The Sportsman is a cosy country style pub on the western outskirts of Sheffield overlooking the Rivelin Valley and adjacent to the Wyming Brook Woodland and Nature Reserve. There is a large sports field next to the large pub car park and the local football team are based at the pub with changing facilities on the premises in an old wartime bunker, as are a local running club. The pub is a one room operation with an L shaped bar and has a small catering kitchen. It has become known for home cooked food, quality Cask Ale and a Sunday Carvery and a focal point for the local community to gather and bond built on a genuine home from home atmosphere. With bags of potential to create a new story for one of Sheffield's most popular pubs this is a great opportunity for someone to make their mark and build a great business.

Regional Manager's Thoughts

This is a pub that has so much potential having been ran by the same Landlady for a long time. The Sportsman is well known pub and highly regarded in the local community and with the walkers, runners and footballers that frequent the area on a regular basis. Famous for an annual music festival, a warm and friendly welcome and traditional home cooked pub food, I am looking for someone who can build on these elements and springboard the pub and the offer with a modern feel. The pub is very traditional and these values are essential to maintaining the goodwill of the community but there is definite opportunity in modernising the food and drink offering.

Surrounding Area

Redmires Road is situated in the western outskirts of Sheffield, known for its picturesque landscapes. The area is close to the Redmires Reservoirs, which supply drinking water to Sheffield. Additionally, during World War II, Redmires served as a training ground for the British military, with remains of military structures still visible in the vicinity. The area is now a popular spot for walking, running, and enjoying nature. Hallamshire Golf Club is just 500m down the road.
