Support Worker

Edinburgh, UK
Apply Now

Company: CROSSREACH

Job Type: Permanent, FullTime

Salary: £12.43 - £12.58 per hour

At Cunningham House, we provide safe and supportive hostel accommodation for homeless adults in Edinburgh. Our 23 rooms, including 20 for men and 3 for women, offer self-catering facilities alongside the opportunity for residents to access the vital support they need as they work to get their lives back on track.

As part of our dedicated team, you’ll be supporting individuals in our move-on accommodation, where residents can stay for up to 2 years. Each person is supported by a key worker who helps them develop a personal support plan, addressing goals like building basic living skills, budgeting, overcoming challenges that led to homelessness, and finding permanent accommodation. By working with us, you’ll be empowering people to rebuild their lives and achieve lasting independence.

As a Support Worker at Cunningham House, you will be an integral part of a dedicated team providing essential support to residents within a housing support service. Your role will involve creating a safe and welcoming environment for all service users, ensuring their wellbeing and promoting a high standard of living. You’ll assist with day-to-day activities, helping residents with personal hygiene, accessing healthcare, and encouraging them to engage in community activities. By supporting residents to maintain their independence, you’ll contribute to their overall quality of life, assisting them to develop personal interests and life skills.

You’ll work closely with senior staff, taking responsibility for a caseload of service users as a key worker. This will include supporting individuals to create and implement personal support plans, as well as regularly reviewing their progress. Your ability to observe and respond to changing needs will be crucial to the success of these plans. In addition, you will be involved in case conferences, reviews, and other important meetings, compiling reports and contributing to the wider team discussions to ensure that the best possible care is provided to each resident. You’ll also help manage the duty office, receiving phone calls, referrals, and maintaining communication with service users.

The role requires flexibility, with shifts that may include evenings, weekends, and occasional overnight cover. As a Support Worker, you will also assist with the daily upkeep of the unit, including cooking and cleaning when necessary. It is essential to respect and work within the Christian ethos of Cunningham House, supporting residents in attending worship services according to their personal choice. In return, we offer a supportive environment where you will continue to develop professionally, with opportunities for training and career progression, including the completion of a Level 3 SVQ within one year if not already qualified.

We also offer you a range of benefits that you would expect from an organisation that support others.

Firstly, there is access to a wide range of exclusive retail and leisure discounts through our rewards scheme and the Blue Light Discount card. We also ensure that your future and that of your loved ones is secured with a generous contributory pension plan and death in service benefit. Balancing work and family are made easier with our suite of enhanced family friendly policies and your health and wellness are prioritised with access to our health cash plan, giving you cash back for a wide range of health treatments. We even have access to a care concierge service to assist you with life's challenges, providing invaluable support when you need it most.

But we also know that your training and development is important to you, and as well as a contribution to your professional membership fees, we are keen to support you in making the right steps to learn, grow and develop in ways that are right for you.
