Job Description for Commissioning Engineer (Mechanical):

The role of Commissioning Engineer is responsible for the safe delivery of project activities within an operational nuclear facility. Many of the projects are bespoke in nature and have complex nuclear safety aspects which must be demonstrated and documented to a high standard to comply with the arrangements laid out within the nuclear site licence conditions.
The Bespoke nature of some of the projects to be delivered often require novel engineering solutions - it is expected that a commissioning engineer will contribute to and the development of these engineering solutions, while safety and quality is not compromised.
We're looking for a versatile and experienced mechanical engineer who can take projects from initial specification through to delivery of an operational asset, delivering all the relevant commissioning elements throughout.
We're looking for someone who is self-motivated and a team player looking to push their career to the next level and keen to work and grow as part of an integrated team.
There will be a requirement to travel between NNL sites and customer locations, as required by the projects.
Main Responsibilities for Commissioning Engineer (Mechanical):
- Get involved in Cradle to Grave Projects by:
- To carry out commissioning performance and safety testing and to document accurately testing results / performance data.
- To mark-up engineering drawings / documentation to reflect the 'as-built' condition of installed and commissioned plant and equipment.
- To document design, installation, quality performance, and safety non-conformances.
- To provide commissioning progress reporting when required.
- To supervise third parties when required.
- Take part in internal and external audits when necessary.
- To provide commissioning expertise into the design and safety case process (MDDR / HAZOP etc.).
- Ensure Lifetime records are correctly documented and passed to document control for filing.
- To look for opportunities/improvements to the operation of plant and/or equipment during the commissioning process.
- To attend off site 'works' testing at manufacturers premises when required to carry out or witness testing of plant and equipment to be provided to site.
- Display professional conduct at all times.
- The above is not exhaustive and other duties may be allocated as required by the project and Commissioning Manager.
Essential Criteria for Commissioning Engineer (Mechanical):
- Time served indentured Mechanical / Process Apprenticeship.
- Minimum ONC or equivalent qualification in mechanical or Process Engineering.
- Demonstrable engineering experience in the nuclear industry.
- Demonstrable commissioning experience in the nuclear industry.
- Experience in the production of performance test documentation.
- Experience in the production of safety test documentation and the use of MS Office applications.
- Be able to fault find on systems, plant and equipment.
- A comprehensive understanding of safe working within a nuclear environment, including conventional hazards.
- Ability to gain a Process Plant & Equipment (PP&E) nomination to carry out Plant Isolations for others.
- Ability to obtain DV level security clearance (this includes but is not limited to identity, employment, financial, criminal record checks, interview plus 10 years of UK residency).
Desirable Criteria for Commissioning Engineer (Mechanical):
- Previous experience in commissioning delivery in a project environment.
- Experience within the nuclear industry.
- Good presentation skills.
