We are currently seeking a compassionate and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to work in a primary school in Oldham. This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual who is passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to thrive and achieve their full potential in a nurturing and inclusive environment.
Role Overview:
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will provide vital support to children with a range of SEND needs, including physical, emotional, social, and academic challenges. Working alongside class teachers, SENCOs (Special Educational Needs Coordinators), and other support staff, you will assist in the delivery of tailored educational plans and interventions to ensure students with SEND can access the curriculum and fully participate in school life. You will also provide emotional and pastoral support to help students feel safe, included, and motivated to succeed.
Key Responsibilities:


  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with a range of SEND, assisting them with their academic learning and personal development.

  • Work closely with class teachers and SENCOs to implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and adapt learning materials to meet the diverse needs of SEND students.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of tailored interventions to support student's academic progress, behaviour, and emotional development.

  • Support students in building their social skills and improving self-esteem, promoting positive behaviour within the classroom.

  • Help students with their personal care needs where appropriate, ensuring dignity and respect at all times.

  • Monitor and track student progress, documenting achievements, challenges, and any additional support required, and provide feedback to teachers, SENCOs, and parents.

  • Foster a positive and engaging classroom environment, promoting and respect for all students.

  • Support students in accessing extracurricular activities and engaging with the wider school community.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure the overall success of SEND students, attending team meetings and contributing to discussions around student progress.

  • Provide pastoral care and emotional support to students, helping them navigate any challenges they may face in school.

  • Ensure all safeguarding policies are followed, prioritising the safety and well-being of all students.


Person Specification:


  • Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent) is essential.

  • Experience working with students with SEND in a primary or secondary school setting is highly desirable.

  • Knowledge of a wide range of SEND, including autism, dyslexia, ADHD, physical disabilities, and emotional and behavioural needs.

  • Strong understanding of how to differentiate lessons and interventions for students with diverse needs.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with students, staff, and parents.

  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to adapt to the individual needs of students with SEND.

  • A positive and proactive approach to supporting students in their academic and personal development.

  • Ability to remain calm and resilient in challenging situations.

  • Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks.

  • A commitment to continuous professional development and a willingness to learn new strategies for supporting SEND students.
