Shifts: 24/7 shift pattern - 2 day shifts (6am to 6pm) followed by 2 night shifts (6pm to 6am), then 4 days off

Overtime: Available (time and a half as standard)

Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Automation Technician to join our manufacturing and production team in Chesterfield, North Derbyshire. This role requires someone with experience in an automated or semi-automated manufacturing environment who can manage the operation and technical maintenance of our assembly cells, valve assembly lines, and pump lines. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all lines run safely and efficiently across each shift.

Key Responsibilities:

Oversee the operation and technical maintenance of assembly cells, valve assembly lines, and pump lines.
Perform quality control checks to ensure products meet customer specifications.
Conduct technical cleaning of equipment and repair/refurbish components used in the lines.
Utilise self-diagnosing systems for error detection via sensors (auto check).
Maintain and manage tools/toolboxes, ensuring all necessary tools are available.
Perform preventative and reactive technical maintenance on production lines.
Support the business by providing holiday and absence cover.
Train on warehousing software and systems, including Laser Guided Vehicles and Pick and Place.
Work closely with the warehouse team to ensure timely delivery of components to production lines.
Maintain high standards of Health & Safety practices and adhere to housekeeping measures.
Manage Senior Operators effectively, fostering strong communication and team ethics across shifts.
Assist external software support with communication to resolve assembly machine issues.
Actively seek and implement productivity improvements, sharing initiatives with other shifts.
Participate in testing and hands-on development, utilising the Kaizen improvement system.
Conduct stocktaking and fulfil any other reasonable requests from Directors, Managers, or Shift Leaders.Key Skills and Experience:

Experience as a Automation Technician or on automated or semi-automated manufacturing and production environment.
Knowledge of any of the following technologies/industries is advantageous: valve assembly, actuator assembly, injection moulding, FMCG, automotive, or food manufacturing and production.
Strong understanding of root cause analysis and fault finding.
Awareness of Health & Safety (HSE) standards.
Electrical/Mechanical experience is a plus.
Analytical skills and basic computer literacy.
Ability to read and interpret diagrams, technical drawings, and manuals.
Competence in fault finding to component level.
Interest in continuous improvement and familiarity with ISO9001/14001 and BRC standards.
Understanding of production planning to ensure smooth production flow.
Capability to handle boxes of components and pallets up to 10kg, in line with HSE guidelines.
Experience with the "5 why's" problem-solving technique.Benefits:
