About the Role
We are looking for a dedicated and skilled Apprenticeship Skills Tutor to join our team and help guide apprentices through their learning journey. The role involves providing coaching, support, and assessment to apprentices across a range of industries, ensuring they meet the necessary skills, qualifications, and End Point Assessment (EPA) requirements. As a Skills Tutor, you will have the opportunity to make a real impact on both the apprentices' careers and the businesses they work for. This role involves regular visits to workplaces, offering you the chance to engage with learners in their professional environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Coaching and Support: Provide learners with guidance on behaviours, knowledge, and skills development to support their progress and successful completion of their apprenticeship.
- End Point Assessment (EPA) Preparation: Help apprentices prepare for EPA through skills coaching, ensuring that learners are ready for final assessment and qualifications.
- Progress Reviews: Conduct tripartite reviews with the apprentice, their line manager, and yourself to monitor progress and ensure timely completion.
- Evidence Creation: Guide apprentices to create showcase evidence such as observations, reflective accounts, and witness testimonies, supporting their progression through the e-portfolio system (OneFile).
- Employer Engagement: Work closely with employers to ensure they understand and fulfil their responsibilities related to training requirements and supporting apprentices.
- Pastoral Support: Offer pastoral support and advice, helping apprentices with their personal and professional development both on and off the job.
- Compliance: Maintain accurate and up-to-date learner records, ensuring all data is entered into required systems and that targets, attendance, and learner progression are properly documented.
- Safeguarding & Compliance: Provide advice and guidance on Safeguarding, British Values, Prevent, and Equality & Diversity, ensuring the workplace is a safe learning environment for all apprentices.
- Professional Development: Participate in continuous professional development and contribute to team meetings, sharing best practices and suggestions for enhancing the quality of apprenticeship delivery.
Role Objectives
- Effective Case Management: Support apprentices throughout their entire learning journey, from initial assessments to final qualification and EPA completion.
- Progress Monitoring: Regularly monitor and review the progress of learners, ensuring all milestones are met and supporting them in overcoming any barriers to success.
- Documentation and Administration: Complete all required paperwork, including assessments, review documents, and learner reports, within agreed timescales.
- Quality Assurance: Contribute to the quality assurance processes and ensure that all apprenticeship programmes comply with external standards and internal expectations.
- Health and Safety Compliance: Ensure safe working practices are followed and that all Health and Safety regulations are adhered to during visits and on the job training.
Challenges
- Time Management: Effectively manage a caseload of learners, ensuring all visits, reviews, and assessments are completed within the necessary timeframes.
- Self-Sufficiency: You will be responsible for managing your own diary, ensuring that you can visit apprentices in a timely manner, even while balancing sometimes conflicting demands.
- Client Relationships: Maintain strong relationships with apprentices and employers, while effectively managing expectations and overcoming potential barriers to success.
Your Role in the Department
- Team Collaboration: As part of the Work-Based Learning department, you will report to the Curriculum Team Leader and work alongside other tutors, curriculum leaders, and employer liaison staff to support apprentices.
- Cross-Department Engagement: You will work closely with other teams such as the Functional Skills team to support apprentices in their academic and work-related learning.
