Our client, a leading entity in the Defence & Security sector, is currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Designer to join their team on a contract basis. This role is essential to the design and development of high-integrity gearboxes and related systems for the naval defence industry. You will work full-time onsite in Huddersfield, primarily concentrating on Dreadnought submarine projects, and liaise with key stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

Engineering design of geared transmission systems and components
Develop and re-engineer designs for new applications
Design test equipment and procedures for gearboxes
Interpretation of customer specifications and design standards
Supporting and collaborating with team members across various disciplines
Creation of deliverable documentation including proposals, manuals, and installation instructions
Expert-level usage of 2D and 3D CAD software, preferably Solid Edge
Liaison with production engineering and supply chain teams for problem-solving

Job Requirements:

Experience in mechanical design, particularly in the Defence sector
Proficiency with Solid Edge and SAP software
Understanding of engineering design data specification in SAP
Strong knowledge of geared transmission systems and related components
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Good communication skills for customer-facing tasks and partnership work
A background in working on projects related to submarines and naval ships
