What you'll be doing:
  • Manage all operational aspects of the facility and processes on site, including the methods and organisation of the work, including recruitment, induction, appraisal and training of Operations Staff in accordance with Veolia procedures

  • Ensure the plant operates within the requirements of the Environmental Permit and other Environmental Legislation

  • Liaise with the Maintenance Manager and others regarding projects, maintenance, planned & unplanned outages and feasibility studies, evaluation, costing and programming of plant improvements

  • Propose changes as appropriate to optimise operational efficiency and cost effectiveness.

  • Prepare an annual budget for the Operations Department for review and subsequently work within the approved budget

  • Ensure compliance with the company's Health and Safety, Quality and Environmental Management Systems, Policies and Procedures, ensuring that systems are in place to maintain safe systems of work for company and contractors staff.

  • Carry out any other duties as requested by Senior Management

  • To be available to be called in during emergency situations and plant breakdowns when necessary.

What we're looking for:
  • Qualified to HND or equivalent in a relevant Engineering discipline
  • Good knowledge of MSW Incineration and Power Generation, preferably having experience at a Management level in one of these areas
  • Knowledge of current H&S issues and safe working systems
  • Knowledge of Environmental Permits and associated reporting regime
  • A practical Engineer with s experience in a supervisory Operations role within a process industry, gained in a Chemical, Waste Incineration or Power Generation environment, ideally involving steam raising plant
  • Experience of managing budgets and in training and development of staff
  • Analytical ability and enthusiastic and competent problem solver with a practical approach to solving engineering problems
  • A proven team leader with good communication and organisational skills, able to manage, coach and motivate the operations teams
