Key responsibilities:

  • Deliver the Credit Control Function:Ensure efficient and effective credit control operations across Southwark Council, contributing to the financial stability of our community.
  • Invoice and Direct Debit Management:Create invoices and direct debits as instructed by various council departments, adhering to correct processes, and maintaining accuracy.
  • Credit Notes and Refunds:Process credit notes and refunds promptly and accurately, ensuring a seamless experience for our customers.
  • Debt Recovery:Undertake the debt recovery process diligently to maximise council income, playing a crucial role in the financial health of our community services.
  • Customer Queries:Act as the central point of contact for all invoice-related queries from customers, providing excellent customer service and ensuring all issues are resolved efficiently.

How will you make an impact as our Credit Controller?

  • Previous Credit Control experience or a similar financial role.
  • A deep understanding and knowledge of Credit Control procedures and systems.
  • Knowledge of public sector finance including Local Authority accounting
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to handle face-to-face and telephone queries.
  • You will thrive in a fast-paced environment, prioritising tasks to meet competing deadlines, and be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage invoice transactions accurately and efficiently.
  • The ability to provide clear guidance on credit control matters and support system users (SAP).
  • Able to cultivate a solution orientated mind-set and approach to their work.

Ideally, we are looking for a recent graduate with some experience in Credit Control (someone who can be moulded and is dynamic) and is looking to develop their skillset, easy going, and a willingness to learn is a must. We are a close team and are looking for someone who can fit right in, and hit the ground running.

We need someone reliable and enthusiastic about their job, who is personable and gets along well with others. A comprehensive knowledge of finance is not essential as there is potential to learn on the job, questions are encouraged and we have a very supportive team.

Additional details:

Full Time, 36 hours per week.

This role offers flexible working blended with working from home and from our offices based in London Bridge, SE1.
