We are looking for a driven and enthusiastic Quantity Surveyor to join a leading tier 1 main contractor renowned for delivering high-profile, technically demanding projects across the country.
They have secured a key role on one of the most significant heavy civil engineering schemes currently underway in Birmingham and require a commercially astute Quantity Surveyor to join their established site-based team. The Role:Reporting to the Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will take commercial responsibility for significant packages of work on this major civil engineering project. Your key duties will involve:
- NEC Contract Administration: Managing contractual processes effectively under various NEC options (experience with Options A & C is highly desirable).
- Subcontract Procurement: Leading the procurement process for key subcontract packages, from compiling tender documentation and analysis to negotiation and award.
- Subcontract Management: Post-award management of subcontractors, including valuations, payment notices, change management, and final account settlement.
- Cost Management: Accurate cost forecasting, CVRs, risk and opportunity management, and regular reporting to senior management.
- Valuations & Payments: Preparing applications for payment and managing the client valuation process.
- Change Management: Identifying, valuing, and negotiating variations and compensation events.
- Record Keeping: Maintaining meticulous commercial records.
- Collaborating closely with the site operational teams to ensure commercial objectives are met.
About You:My client is looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Quantity Surveyor who meets the following criteria:
- Essential: Proven experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within a main contracting environment.
- Essential: Demonstrable experience and strong working knowledge of NEC forms of contract is crucial for this role.
- Essential: Experience in heavy civil engineering projects (e.g., highways, structures, earthworks, drainage, utilities, rail, tunnels).
- Essential: Proven track record in subcontract procurement and commercial administration.
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related commercial discipline (HNC/HND level qualifications will be considered with significant relevant experience).
- Commercially astute with strong negotiation skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a site-based team.
- Based in, or able to commute reliably to, the Birmingham area.
