The Role:
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will be working with a group of students who require additional support in managing their emotions and behaviours. You will provide both one-to-one and group support, helping students access the curriculum while fostering their emotional and social development. The role is highly rewarding, and you will be encouraged to build strong, trusting relationships with students, helping them thrive in a positive and structured environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individual and group support to students with SEMH needs, both in and out of the classroom
- Assist with the implementation of personalised learning plans and strategies to support student's emotional and academic development
- Help students develop coping strategies for managing their emotions and behaviours
- Foster a positive, nurturing classroom environment that supports student's social and emotional growth
- Build strong relationships with students to help them feel safe, valued, and confident in their learning
- Work closely with teachers and other staff to track student progress and provide ongoing support
- Promote inclusivity and positive behaviour, while ensuring a calm, respectful environment for all students
- Support the overall well-being of students, acting as a mentor and role model where necessary
- Communicate effectively with parents and other professionals, ensuring a collaborative approach to support each student's needs
What We're Looking For:
- Experience working with children, particularly those with SEMH needs (ideal but not essential)
- A caring, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting students with emotional and behavioural challenges
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, and parents
- The ability to remain calm and positive in challenging situations
- A proactive and flexible attitude, with the ability to adapt to the needs of individual students
- A passion for supporting student's emotional and academic development
- A commitment to making a real difference in the lives of young learners
- Previous experience working in an education or care setting would be beneficial but not essential
