London Fire Brigade, one of our largest public sector organisations based in London are looking to recruit an Assurance Officer to join their team on a permanent basis. The role is full time, Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week with hybrid work available (2 days in office and 3 days work from home) and the office is at the London Fire Brigade HQ, walking distance from London Bridge or Southwark station.

Pay: £40,657.00 per annum but £40,657.00 - £46,550.00 per annum salary range dependant on experience.

Job Purpose:

This post plays an important role in supporting the maintenance of the Brigade’s Enterprise Assurance Framework (EAF) and processes. The EAF is essential to supporting the transformation of the service so that LFB achieves its vision. The postholder provides a vital link between the Business Assurance team and Brigade departments to promote application of first line assurance principles. The postholder plays an essential role in the continual improvement of the Brigade’s business assurance function by supporting several workstreams including, but not limited to, the upkeep of department EAFs and undertaking thematic assurance review work.

Requirements and skills:

  • To support the development and implementation of a risk-based corporate assurance strategy that delivers an Enterprise Assurance Framework (EAF) and thematic assurance reviews aligned to the Brigade’s strategic priorities and objectives that drives continual improvement.
  • To understand, embed and help implement business assurance processes, as well as encouraging the pro-active management of key processes and controls by Heads of Service and departmental staff.
  • Under the direction of the Business Assurance Officer (FRS E) provide knowledge, guidance, assurance and advice to the Heads of Service and all staff on the application of an Enterprise Assurance Framework and compliance with legislation and best practice.
  • To support the organisation in developing a strong and proactive assurance culture throughout the organisation by supporting the delivery of specialist support to managers to enable and support effective managerial supervision and oversight as part of the first line of defence within the Enterprise Assurance Framework.
  • Under the direction of the Business Assurance Officer (FRS E), deliver on a programme of second line of defence activities that provide organisational oversight and validate the outcomes and outputs from the first line of defence managerial supervision and oversight.
  • To maintain good working relationships with colleagues in the Risk and Business Continuity teams so that the assurance framework informs the risk and business continuity management systems and vice-versa, and that the evidence from the assurance programme informs the accurate assessment of the Brigade’s risks and control measures.
