Do you possess the expertise and leadership skills to lead initiatives combating blood-borne viruses (BBVs) across a dynamic region? If so, we invite you to join our dedicated team as a Specialist Blood Borne Virus Nurse.

This post is based at HMP Bristol and you will be the BBV champion across the BSGW region (Bristol, South Gloucestershire and Wiltshire). You will be required to provide your expertise and support to the other 3 prisons in this cluster, HMP's Ashfield, Erelstoke & Leyhill. As a Specialist BBV Nurse, you will play a pivotal role in developing strategies to prevent and control the spread of blood-borne viruses, including HIV, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C, within the BSGW region. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, public health experts, and other stakeholders to drive innovative programs and interventions. Your leadership will be instrumental in ensuring that our initiatives are evidence-based, impactful, and aligned with national best practices.

This is a unique opportunity to take on a leadership role with substantial autonomy and influence. As the specialist BBV nurse for the region, you will be at the forefront of public health innovation, driving change and making a tangible difference in the lives of individuals affected by blood-borne viruses. We offer a collaborative and supportive work environment and endless opportunities for professional growth.

  • To be a Registered Nurse (RMN or RGN)
  • NMC Registration
  • 2 years post qualification experience – preferably in a prison setting
  • Demonstrated involvement in health promotion activities
  • Working knowledge of treatment pathways and best practice in caring for those living with BBVs
