The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity for an experienced CS&A Engineer to join the Nuclear New Build (NNB) project team where you will lead an ambitious programme to build 2 European Pressurised Water Reactors (EPRs) at Hinkley Point in Somerset and at Sizewell in Suffolk.

This team is responsible for delivering the full design of these buildings, including the civil and structural design, mechanical systems and electrical services within these buildings, together with coordinating other systems which may be present. The team is composed of building lead/technical specialists, specialized in technical core discipline such as architectural, civil/structure, nuclear safety, mechanical and electrical design.

The role
As a Senior CS&A Engineer, your role will consist of developing the design of SZC buildings and providing civil engineering support to the Multi-Disciplinary Teams (MDTs).

The principal purpose of your role as a Senior CS&A Engineer is to manage the early design activities for the Ancillary Buildings' scope at SZC, starting from concept and basic design, and ultimately leading to the completion of detailed design, including replication of HPC buildings where possible. This may include the management of an external designer and support from the existing HPC team. The role acts as the principal point of contact within DDB for the allocated scope and acts as Responsible Designer for this contract.

A secondary purpose of the role is to provide civil engineering input to MDTs as a Technical Specialist.

Your duties and responsibilities will be
Supporting the development of SZC engineering delivery strategies.
Ensuring effective engagement with internal and external stakeholders.
Managing the authoring Scope of Works documentation for Contract Partner(s).
Managing the preparation and development of the Technical Specifications for the design studies.
Coordinating the technical assessment of contracts prior to signature of contract.
Providing technical management of the Contract(s), including being the primary point of contact for the programme's project managers.
Coordinate engineering design activities performed by the different Contract Partners in parallel work streams.
Providing technical support and information to the Contract Partner(s) where required.
Managing the surveillance of the Contract Partner(s) design work, in conjunction with NNB's technical management, in accordance with project processes.
Ensuring consistency of Contract Partner(s) deliverables with the contract technical specifications and ensuring Safety and UK Context requirements are considered in design activities.
Ensuring effective configuration control processes are in place and are implemented.
Leading the resolution of transverse (multi-programme) engineering issues or risks.
Ensuring that the Contract Partner(s) schedules and milestones are consistent with global SZC schedule.
Ensuring that the Contract Partner(s) List of Deliverables (LoD) are consistent with the agreed schedule(s) and to ensure the Contract Partner is delivering design output in accordance with the agreed schedule and the LoD.
Agree and accept the Contract Partner Design Schedule on behalf of NNB.
Provide and coordinate engineering design gateway requirements and reviews.
Manage the coordinate and consolidate comments provided by all the Stakeholders during the deliverables review process.
Facilitate optimisation of the design via modifications, trends and changes from feedback across the project.
Lead discussions with the Contract Partner, providing support to the NNB Project manager with early warning and compensation events, reviewing project change requests and provide support to the commercial lead for cost and schedule impact assessment and negotiation.
Ensure perceived risks and trends are recorded and appropriately managed.
Ensure effective tracking, mitigation and closure of open points.
Manage all technical interfaces.
Liaise with the NNB Project Manager for any variation of scope out of delegation provided by the NNB Project Manager.
Establish and provide regular updates to the contract risk register.
The Engineering Lead will be supported by NNB specialists for the technical disciplines and particular UK Context issues (e.g. CDM requirements).
Provide some support to other building coordinators on their core discipline.
Contribute to the building's specification, perform surveillance, provide technical advice on their core disciplines.You will have the following skills and experience
Degree qualified or equivalent in Civil/Structural Engineering discipline. Chartership appreciated.
Experience in design management and coordination on large multi-discipline infrastructure projects.
Experience in nuclear industry appreciated. Awareness of the nuclear safety related constraints.
Solid Technical knowledge of building design and construction.
Excellent knowledge of engineering procedures especially RIBA plan of work 2020, or equivalent.
Experienced in buildings standards and engineering procedures in the UK.
Accuracy, tenacity, diplomacy, results-oriented, leadership.
Acknowledged organisational skills including the ability to delegate.
Ability to work independently and be proactive.
Excellent communication/interpersonal skills.
Discretion, ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information.
Languages: English (priority), French (appreciated).
Strong IT skills and proficiency in engineering software packages.The position will be located in Bristol (Almondsbury) with occasional travel to Hinkley Point C site, Sizewell C site, Sizewell C offices in London and Contractors offices as required.
