Job Title: Pharmacy Assistant - Band 3  
Location: West London
Duration: 6 months minimum
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week on a shift/rota basis, 8:30am - 5pm, 9am - 5:30pm or 11:30am - 8pm, 1 hour breaks. This rotates each week!
Start Date: October 2024
End Date: On going
Rate of pay: £14.40ph - 16ph depending on experience, paid via umbrella.

Details of the role:

To provide an exceptional Outpatient Pharmacy counter service to all patients, staff and health care professionals. To manage and coordinate the front counter service, identifying customer needs and offering appropriate advice on over the counter medicines. As a front line member of the team this role will ensure all customers are well received and responded to appropriately. To communicate and escalate to the team and the Responsible Pharmacist. Maintain GPHC standards. To register patients, take payments in line with current policy and procedures. To collect data for audit purposes and act as a service ambassador.

Receive and verify Outpatient prescriptions in accordance with the law and hospital procedures and to ensure that the appropriate checking procedures are adhered to at all times. To refer any questions regarding prescriptions and drug information to a pharmacist.

Support the continued functioning of the Outpatient Dispensary by ensuring efficient stock maintenance on Ascribe and implementation of administrative procedures.

Support the implementation and efficient use of IT- related developments such as PeopleSoft ordering, EPOS, Ascribe-related initiatives and digital technology.

Sell 'Pharmacy Only' and GSL medicines to patients, using appropriate questioning to ensure that the medicines are being used appropriately, under the direct supervision of a pharmacist in accordance with the General Pharmaceutical Council guidelines for licensed retail pharmacies.

Pro-actively assist customers with their questions, locating items or referring them to the pharmacist for medication information.

Ensure that prescription documentation is maintained and stored appropriately in accordance with the law.

Administrative duties will include answering telephones, booking out and filing sold item forms, pricing stock and ensuring the front counter of the pharmacy is kept clean and tidy with a professional image.

Ensure all stock discrepancies are resolved in a timely fashion.

Ensure the front counter is well organised, clean and tidy at all times.

Ensure appropriate inventory and stock control of medicines and maintain proper storage conditions of all over the counter medications in line with hospital policy and procedure.

Receive and store incoming supplies, verify quantities against orders and inform supervisor of stock needs and shortages.

Compute charges for medication and / or sundries dispensed to hospital patients and enter data in computer. Ensure all pharmacy consumables are ordered in a timely fashion and pro-actively liaise with Pharmacy Stores for replenishment.

Deliver medications and pharmaceutical supplies to patients or other healthcare professionals within the hospital as required.

Communicate all queries and messages before leaving at the end of a shift.

Participate in the late duty, Saturday and Bank Holiday rotas as appropriate.

Requirements and qualifications required for this role:

Experience working as a Pharmacy Assistant, retail or hospital.
Ability to communicate efficiently
NVQL2 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent MCA qualification
Strong team player
Confident and flexible!

Working hours and contract duration:

Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week on a shift/rota basis, 8:30am - 5pm, 9am - 5:30pm or 11:30am - 8pm, 1-hour breaks. This rotates each week!
