Summary:

A SHE (Safety, Health and Envionmental) Manager is responsible for ensuring an organisation adheres to all safety, health and environmental regulations and standards. This role entails developing, implementing and maintaining policies and programs to foster a safe and healthy work environment while reducing the company's environmental footprint. Additionally, the SHE Manager leads and manages the SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment and Quality) advisors, Co Ordinators and Apprentice support within the business.

Specific Responsibilities/Tasks:

* Provide specialist health, safety and environmental support to Directors, operational teams and all other employees through advice, guidance and support so far as reasonably practicable.

* Provide suitable and sufficient HSE information to the business in the form of site visits, audits, briefings, regular HSE meetings, workshops, training, inductions ( as er company procedures), presentations etc

* Ensure all accidents and incidents are reported and entered on to the database as per company procedure.

* Monitor and review outstanding actions arising from HSE site inspections with SHEQ Advisors to ensure they are closed out in the timeframe specified.

* Ensure suitable and sufficient SHEQ Advisor cover is arranged and communicated to all relevant persons to cover all periods of planned absence.

* Manage weekly timesheets, holiday requests and mileage for direct reports.

* Review monthly HSE information as provided by the company database and discuss, accident and incident information, inspection and audit results with the SHEQ management team during regular HSE meetings.

* Monitor and review accidents and incidents to identify trends, consult with operational teams to agree corrective action.

* Take the lead to ensure HSE premises audits withing the group are undertaken at intervals agreed within the company procedures

* Maintain communication with all customers and clients, including South Staffs Water, National Grid and Cambridge Water Company teams.

* Monitor and review Sub-contractor assessments to work, notify Senior Management if sub-contractors are identified working without assessment and agree remedial action to be taken as quickly as possible.

* Liase with the appointed training coordinator to monitor and review individual's training needs and mandatory requirements as per company training matrix. Report to senior management where mandatory training is not being provided.

* Ensure accidents and incidents are reported to regulatory bodies e.g. HSE where appropriate. Take the lead on all accident and incident investigations deemed to be potentially serious in line with company procedures

* Monitor and review compliance with company procedures on a regular basis

* Ensure business is kept up to date with safety alerts and safe working practices

* Provide guidance and mentoring to SHEQ advisors and Senior SHEQ Advisors

* Conducting HSE investigations when deputising for group SHEQ Director

Qualifications & Training:

* NEBOSH General Certificate

* Grad Member of IOSH or working towards

* Lead Auditor/Assessor Qualification

* CSCS/EUSR Site Safety Proficiency Card

* ISO 14001 Environmental Management Certification

Technical Skills & Experience

* Significant experience in the same or similar role or other role involving the management of health, safety and environmental risk in complex high-risk environments and within industries such as utilities, construction, civil and engineering

* Management experience of SHEQ within the utilities, civil engineering sector

* Knowledge of ISO45001/ ISO 14001/ OSP 9001 management systems and implementation

* Knowledge of GIRS, NERS & WIRS

* Excellent organisational, planning skills with the ability to prioritise key tasks without compromising on safety standards

* Ability to develop friendly and professional customer focused relations with all stakeholders

* Self-driven, results oriented, with a can do attitude without compromising safety and/ or compliance.

* Ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including employees, management, regulatory agencies and the community
