The Head of Agronomy will be responsible for the production of Tobacco based on the IPS model to meet the business needs of the company.
Direct, promote, and coordinate the agronomy operations in a manner that will optimize our client's resources while managing both business and financial risks and aligning production strategies to address ESG requirements and farmers productivity initiatives in line with GAP and STP.
Establish a lean and agile agronomy team that can effectively multitask.
Ensure security of supply that is aligned with GAP/STP & ESG principles and adheres to the company's purpose, values, and mission.
Create productivity and efficiencies throughout the leaf production supply chain that benefit both the farmer and the company.
Think strategically, communicate effectively, and maintain a positive, can-do attitude that promotes teamwork and inclusion within the agronomy department and throughout the company.
Establish departmental goals in collaboration with Leaf Operations and Finance under the guidance of the Managing Director.
Develop and implement agronomy strategic plans, objectives, and policies consistent with the company's goals and objectives.
Assign team members defined job responsibilities, maintain these job descriptions, develop performance standards, complete and administer bi-annual and annual performance reviews for
team members, and plan opportunities for advancement, training, development, and succession planning.
Contribute to the development of policies and procedures for various activities related to the company's assigned activities, such as contracting, pricing, risk management, marketing of the crop, and logistics (total supply chain).
Develop programs to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of the company's agronomy presence in areas of operation.
Promote company communication efforts at all levels regarding agronomy market intelligence, policies, procedures, and the agronomy department's direction as it relates to assigned volumes, ESG, and ERP systems development.
Guide and direct the production team in liaison with Leaf operations on all GAP/STP and ESG-related matters, including yields, quality, farmers' net returns, crop throw, and product integrity, ensuring continuous improvements in a cost-effective manner.
Engage with other external stakeholders to enhance the company's image and its contribution to society.
Facilitate periodic GAP and ESG assessments (audits) as required, providing guidance and follow-up to ensure corrective actions are appropriate and completed.
Develop project scopes, budgets, benchmarks, and schedules.
Analyze and interpret data to make informed decisions.
Apply sound business principles and judgment in the management of the department.
Develop annual and long-term strategic and operational plans for the Agronomy department.
Ensure that the agronomy division team members understand company-wide objectives and how the agronomy department supports company goals.
Plan Agronomy CapEx and provide business justification for fixed asset purchases consistent with equipment replacement schedules or business conditions.
Contract, monitor, and categorize farmers for tobacco growing according to GAP guidelines.
