An Ofsted-graded 'Good' secondary pupil referral unit/ PRU in Preston are seeking a dynamic and passionate SEMH experienced Teaching Assistant to join their team in January 2025...

The school require a teaching assistant to support students' learning across Key Stage 3 and 4, and the ideal candidate will have experience supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental health difficulties (SEMH) in an alternative provision or PRU setting.

The role will involve working on a 1:1 and small group basis, supporting the class teacher with learning and behaviour management in a positive manner.

The successful candidate will demonstrate resilience, patience and an ability to strike up rapport and develop relationships with SEMH pupils. Pupils arrive at the school having struggled to access learning in their previous school/s, and clear routines and therapies are implemented in school to help re-engage students with the education system. The personal relationships developed with pupils ensure that each one achieves their potential both academically and personally.

Rates of £90-£100 per day are available for this SEMH Teaching Assistant role, dependant upon experience and qualification - with the school looking to take someone on through an initial long term, temporary period, with a view to subsequently offering a permanent contract to the right candidate in the summer term 2025.

To be successful in this SEMH Teaching Assistant role, you will need to:

Have knowledge and understanding of working with SEN and challenging behaviour
Demonstrate a proven record of engaging all pupils and raising their attainment
Be subject to an Enhanced DBS Disclosure - or hold a DBS currently subscribed to DBS Update Service
Provide overseas Police Clearances (if applicable) and undergo professional reference checks
Ensure your CV covers all employment and education since leaving secondary school
Have the legal right to work in the UK
