About the Role

We are seeking an experienced, resilient, and compassionate Senior Social Worker to join our client's Children's Services team. This is a crucial role dedicated to delivering high-quality social work services to vulnerable children, young people, and their families, in line with statutory legislation, departmental policy, and best practice. You'll manage complex, high-risk caseloads while supporting less experienced staff and offering leadership where needed.

This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference, champion children's rights, and help drive improved outcomes for some of the most vulnerable in our communities.

Key Responsibilities

*

Manage a complex and challenging caseload with autonomy, including safeguarding, child protection, care proceedings, and looking after children.

*

Provide direct line management to up to two social workers, including guidance, support, and formal supervision where appropriate.

*

Act as deputy to the Case Supervisor, supporting case direction, attending panels, and ensuring service quality.

*

Conduct thorough and timely assessments, analyse risk, and develop action plans to ensure the welfare of children.

*

Build effective relationships with children, families, and carers to promote resilience and reduce dependency on services.

*

Prepare high-quality court reports, attend hearings, and represent the Local Authority in legal proceedings.

*

Apply professional judgement and creativity to identify bespoke, innovative solutions to complex family needs.

Key Requirements

*

Qualified social worker with a recognised qualification (BA/MA in Social Work, DipSW, CQSW, etc.).

*

Registered with Social Work England (Provided Registration Number)

*

Significant post-qualification experience in a statutory children's social care setting.

*

Strong understanding of child development, family dynamics, and safeguarding frameworks.

*

Experience managing complex cases and working within legal frameworks and court proceedings.

*

Confident in risk assessment, care planning, report writing, and case presentation.

*

Excellent communication, analytical, and organisational skills.

Desirable

*

Practice Educator (Stage 2) or willingness to train.

*

Knowledge of local authority policies, procedures, and models such as Signs of Safety.

*

Supervisory experience, particularly supporting ASYE or student placements.

Working Arrangements

*

Flexible/agile working is expected, including occasional evening or weekend work.

*

You must hold a current full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle (unless exempted due to a disability or health condition).

*

Enhanced DBS clearance is required.

*

Post holders may be asked to transfer between teams in response to service needs.
