We're supporting our client, a global, leading CNC machine manufacturer based in Coventry, who are looking for an Automation Engineer to join their growing team. The successful Automation Engineer will have previous experience with PLC programming, as well as interfacing automation systems within CNC machine tools.

Job Summary: As an Automation Engineer, you will be part of a division responsible for interfacing and integrating machines into automated cells. This involves using a combination of Robots, Conveyors, Gantries, and Automatic Measuring equipment depending on the customer's requirements. The department is also responsible for the retrofitting of UK, European and Japanese options to new and existing machines.

Responsibilities for Automation Engineer:

* Automation Design & Programming: Develop and commission automation systems, including PLCs, robotic cells, and machine tool integrations.

* Mechanical & Electrical Work: Hands-on mechanical fitting, electrical wiring, and panel building for automation systems.

* System Communication: Interface devices using communication protocols such as RS232, RS485, Profinet, Profibus, Ethernet IP, and TCP/IP.

* Signal Integration: Understand and implement handshake signals for seamless interfacing between automation systems and CNC machine tools.

* CNC Machine Tending Solutions: Design and program systems for efficient machine tending operations.

* Robot Programming: Program FANUC robots and utilize offline robot programming and simulation tools.

* HMI Development: Create advanced, user-friendly HMIs tailored to specific system requirements.

* Documentation Management: Develop and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including system specifications, E-CAD schematics, and user manuals.

* Collaboration & Support: Work with cross-functional teams to design, test, and refine systems. Provide training and support to end-users and maintenance staff.

* Technology Adoption: Stay informed on emerging technologies, integrating innovative solutions to enhance efficiency and performance.

* Understanding of Networks & Cybersecurity: Knowledge of managed and unmanaged IT and OT customer networks, with a strong understanding of cybersecurity principles and best practices.

About You:

* Strong understanding of mechanical devices, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.

* Expertise in PLC programming, including safety programming and troubleshooting.

* Experience in interfacing automation systems with CNC machine tools.

* Proficiency in industrial communication protocols and handshake signal integration.

* Practical experience in electrical wiring and panel building.

* Advanced knowledge of E-CAD software for schematic design and editing.

* Competence in using 3D CAD software for system design.

* Skilled in creating and customizing advanced HMIs for operational ease.

* Experience with offline robot programming and simulation tools.

* Fully IT literate, with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

* Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage projects effectively.

* Attention to detail, ensuring high standards in all tasks.

* Experience in implementing managed and unmanaged network systems.

* Level 4 or equivalent qualification in Automation, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

* Certifications in robotics, PLC programming, or relevant automation technologies are advantageous.
