Salary: £14.20 per hour

Hours: Full-time, shift-based (including weekends and evenings)

Job Overview:

We are seeking a compassionate, experienced, and dedicated Senior Support Worker to join our team at a children's home based in Sutton Coldfield. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting and nurturing children and young people, ensuring their safety, well-being, and personal development in a caring, structured environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Leadership and Supervision:
o Provide day-to-day leadership to support staff, ensuring high standards of care and support are maintained.
o Assist in the training, development, and mentoring of junior staff members.
o Ensure the smooth running of shifts, including effective delegation of tasks and responsibilities.
o Act as a role model for other staff, promoting a positive and inclusive culture.
• Child-Centered Care:
o Build positive, trusting relationships with the children and young people, understanding their individual needs and helping them to achieve their potential.
o Implement and monitor care plans tailored to each child, ensuring they receive consistent, personalised care.
o Support the emotional, physical, and social development of the children, encouraging their participation in educational and recreational activities.
• Safeguarding and Compliance:
o Ensure all safeguarding policies and procedures are adhered to, maintaining a safe and supportive environment.
o Monitor and report on the progress and welfare of the children, completing necessary documentation and reports.
o Assist in the preparation for inspections and audits, ensuring compliance with Ofsted standards and other regulatory requirements.
• Crisis Management:
o Manage challenging situations effectively, including de-escalating conflicts and addressing behavioural issues.
o Provide support during incidents, ensuring the safety and well-being of all involved, and complete accurate incident reports.
• Collaboration and Communication:
o Work closely with the management team, social workers, educational staff, and other professionals to ensure a coordinated approach to each child's care.
o Participate in meetings, reviews, and planning sessions to contribute to the development and implementation of care strategies.
Qualifications and Experience:
• Essential:
o At least 2-3 years of experience working in a similar role within a residential childcare setting.
o NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care (Children and Young People) or equivalent.
o Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection principles.
o Proven ability to lead and motivate a team.
o Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Desirable:
o Experience working with children with emotional and behavioural difficulties.
o First Aid, Team Teach, or similar certification.
o Knowledge of relevant legislation and best practices in residential childcare.
