I am looking for a Health and Safety / Principal Designer for one of my clients based in the New port area.

Experience in either renewables, solar or energy would be advantageous

Competitive salary and benefits. Based in Newport with site visits approx once a month.

This candidate will have the ability under CDM Regulations. They are looking at Ideally someone with principal designer experience but he is open to explore other options.

Scope would be something like this, which is our general offering to the renewables market:

Principal Designers have the following defined role to perform under the CDM Regulations:

Inform the Client of their duties under the regulations

Plan, manage and monitor health and safety in the pre-construction phase, including; identifying, eliminating or controlling foreseeable risks; and ensuring designers carry out their duties

Help compile pre-construction information and provide it to designers and contractors

Prepare the health and safety file following completion of the project

Liaise with the Principal Contractor to help in the planning, managing, monitoring and co-ordination of the construction phase

Take into account the general principles of prevention

Ensure that all persons working in relation to the pre-construction phase cooperate with the Client, the Principal Designer and each other

Check that designers have sufficient skills, knowledge, experience and (if they are an organisation) the organisational capability to carry out the work.

Specific Project Task:

Pre-construction Phase

Assist the Client in preparing the Client's H&S requirements (taken from the Contract documents).

Undertake and participate in design risk reviews / meetings (6 allowed for, monthly frequency)

Assist and prepare the Pre-construction information (PCI)

Compile all salient documents such as:

Site investigation

Services maps

Permits/planning and lease requirements etc

Attend site to identify the likely risks posed in the construction phase, with the output the PD risk assessment which forms appendix 1 of the PCI

Liaise and work with the other Designers on the project to eliminate foreseeable health, safety, environmental and social risks, and take responsible steps to reduce or control those that are not possible to eliminate

Review and prepare the Designer Risk Assessment (DRA)

Notify the relevant enforcing authority (the HSE) using the electronic form ten (F10) and ensure validity during the construction phase

Liaise with the Principal Contractor in preparing the construction phase plan and sharing the preconstruction information pack,

Undertake / participate in a prestart construction meeting to ensure the DRA risks have been mitigated / incorporated into the Construction phase plans / Safe Safety of Works by the Principal Contractor for the project,

Assist the Client in the review of the Construction phase plans ​​​​​​​

Construction Phase

* Attend the site during the construction phase to review the implementation of the control measures undertaken and compliance with the CDM regulations and produce a site inspection / audit report

* Post-Construction

* Prepare, keep updated and complete the Health and Safety File for the Project
