Job Overview:

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Head of Music to lead our dynamic music department. The ideal candidate will be passionate about music education, have a proven track record of excellence in teaching, and possess the leadership skills necessary to inspire both students and staff. As the Head of Music, you will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive music curriculum, directing school performances, and fostering a love of music within our school community.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Management:

Provide strategic direction and leadership for the music department.
Supervise and support music teachers, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
Oversee the recruitment, training, and professional development of music staff.
Manage the department's budget and resources efficiently.

Curriculum Development:

Develop and implement a broad and balanced music curriculum that meets national standards and caters to students of all abilities.
Integrate innovative teaching methods and technologies to enhance music education.
Ensure the curriculum includes diverse musical genres and traditions.

Teaching and Learning:

Teach music classes across various age groups and abilities.
Prepare students for performances, examinations, and competitions.
Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment where every student can thrive.

School Performances and Events:

Organize and direct school concerts, musical productions, and other performances.
Collaborate with other departments to incorporate music into school-wide events and projects.
Engage with the local community to promote the school's music program.

Assessment and Evaluation:

Monitor and assess student progress, providing regular feedback to students and parents.
Use data to inform instruction and improve student outcomes.
Ensure compliance with all relevant educational standards and regulations.

Community Engagement:

Build strong relationships with students, parents, staff, and the wider community.
Promote the music department and its achievements within the school and beyond.
Encourage student participation in external music activities and events.

Qualifications and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Music, Music Education, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent certification.
Proven experience in teaching music at the primary and/or secondary level.
Demonstrated leadership experience in an educational setting.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in playing multiple instruments and conducting ensembles.
A commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with educational best practices.
