The Electoral Commission is the independent body that regulates party and election finance, sets standards for well-run elections and encourages people to register to vote.

Senior Policy Adviser – The Role:

The Senior Policy Advisor works as part of a team helping to lead the Electoral Commission’s response to an exciting range of policy challenges and major new elections legislation across the UK, promoting the Commission’s policy agenda.

Under the guidance of the Policy Manager, this position provides expert policy advice and insight to leadership on a range of matters.

Senior Policy Adviser – Key Responsibilities:

- Providing flexible policy analysis

- Analysing and commenting on draft legislation

- Briefing policy makers in Government and key internal stakeholders on relevant proposals and reform

- You will be involved in research and analysis projects regarding political finance and electoral administration matters. Later reporting on the impact of significant changes to elections

- Throughout your work you will develop specialist knowledge about election law and policy & develop innovative thinking about regulatory challenges of new campaign techniques

Senior Policy Adviser – You:

- The ideal candidate will have experience leading policy development, with detailed knowledge of government policy, legislation and legislative processes

- You will be proficient in analysing information, identifying trends, and presenting findings to influence decision makers, and have the ability to interpret complex legislation and translate it for others

- The successful candidate will possess excellent written and oral communication skills, well-developed interpersonal skills, and strong attention to detail and accuracy

- Familiarity with UK political systems and structures including devolution in the UK, and an interest in democracy and the electoral process in the UK will be advantageous
