Hours: Week 1 - 06:30-14:30 Mon-Thurs 06:30-14:00 Friday. Week 2 - 08:00-16:00 Mon-Thurs 08:00-15:30 Friday
Pay: £30.00ph paid weekly via umbrella - no CIS/LTD

Key Duties / Responsibilities
This is a specialist role with substantial responsibility for ensuring the safety and roadworthiness of the clients transport machinery and equipment, the role holder will be expected to have an in depth knowledge, skills and abilities in the areas listed below.
Performance Measures
Expected to carry out vehicle diagnostics within 10 % of the times achieved by his peer group
Expected to complete Vehicle Repairs and maintenance within +/- 10% of the agreed or industry standard times agreed for specific tasks
To be available for work on any allocated tasks from start to end of Work period excluding any official break periods
Main Responsibilities
Carry out repairs and preventative maintenance in accordance with the laid down manufacturers specification , including fault finding and diagnostic testing to motor vehicles, contractors plant and grounds machinery powered by gas, diesel oil, petrol or electricity together with associated equipment
Carry out repairs including fault finding and diagnostic testing to vehicle/plant electrics, hydraulics and pneumatics, especially those fitted to specialist vehicles such as refuse, road sweeper’s, gully vehicles and buses
Carry out repairs and modifications to vehicle bodywork, including general panel beating, engineering fabrication, design, redesign and installation
Complete general welding (gas, arc) brazing and soldering as necessary
Complete repairs using machine shop tools and equipment including general bench work
To carry out vehicle safety inspections, in accordance with the Vehicle Inspectorate standards and guidelines and to complete all relevant documentation accurately
To prepare vehicles for, and drive to the Vehicle Inspectorate Test Station for Plating and Testing and to carry out minor adjustments which may be identified on this inspection as required
To attend to vehicle/plant and equipment breakdowns, and effect roadside repairs or recovery to the Transport Workshops or Repair Agents, as directed by a Team Leader, Supervisor or his delegate
Carry out assessment of Vehicles and plant involved in accidents or damaged and advice on roadworthiness and arrange for repairs to be carried out either internally or externally if specialist equipment needed
Carry out MOT testing (class 4, 5 and 7)
Undertake general administrative tasks such as completion of Job Cards, completion of time sheets recording of vehicle inspection, MOT test documentation and any other administrative tasks as necessary
To Move vehicles/plant including, parking in tight spaces, manoeuvre on and off ramps and or pits for repair and within workshops around the site and as necessary off site particularly on vehicle recovery operations
To test drive vehicles on or offsite to assist in diagnosing faults and to carry out post repair checks
To participate in emergency standby and call out rota
To take primary responsibility for the training, mentoring, supervision and inspection of work of any apprentices or skilled technician, directly working for or with the post holder on specific skills
To take secondary responsibility for supervision, mentoring and checking of work of any apprentices or skilled technician working in the department
To deliver and collect vehicles from suppliers, repairers and user departments and act as the councils representative to ensure vehicles are inspected repaired correctly and only moved when safe and legal
To assist in stop and check activities of vehicles and driver records including checklists prior to them leaving site to ensure compliance with Vehicle operating regulations
Utilise computers including used of pre-designed programmes, computerised and electronic equipment bar code readers or similar to assist in diagnostics, recording of work done, allocation of parts from stores, checking and updating of vehicle records history
Ensure compliance with and actively promote health and safety at work legislation, council and departmental Health and Safety policies and Training
To contribute to the evaluation, of reliability and ongoing performance, of fleet vehicles, plant, equipment, workshop materials and processes
To make recommendations for and assist in the evaluation of improvements to fleet vehicles, plant, equipment, workshop materials and processes
Qualifications & Experience
Formal qualification in Plant/Motor Vehicle maintenance
Qualified MOT tester
LGV Category C Driving Licence and ideally category C+E Driving Licence
