Sphere Solutions is working with one of the UK's largest contracting groups working across building, civil engineering & rail.

Due to securing several new frameworks and a restructuring within the existing team, they have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Commercial Manager to lead a sizeable team and be responsible for the financial performance, governance, and business direction across their rail business. The role works closely with the Regional Director to steer the strategy and performance of the business.

Required Skill Set:

* Able to facilitate risk management reviews, identify and classify project and business risks, reconcile the interaction of various risks, and propose and implement viable solutions

* Skilled negotiator able to manage and lead a negotiating team about complex projects, and secure acceptable commercial results

* Able to manage a dispute through dispute resolution with practical knowledge and understanding of legal techniques attached thereto

* Demonstrates commitment and leadership by creating a culture and set of behaviors on the project that supports HSE Group vision and aspirations

* Will have led a Commercial Team to delivery of a portfolio of projects

* Has a detailed knowledge of D&B, PCSA process.

* Can develop delivery plans for multi-disciplined teams on complex projects and ensure delivery thereof.

* Able to produce contractual correspondence and reports quickly, concisely, and effectively to requirements. Can supervise the production and presentation of these

* Able to lead, guide, devise, and negotiate the approach format and timescale of complex valuations

* Able to demonstrate collaborative cross business working, and influence win-win outcomes. (Bigger than project thinking).

* Has awareness of personal blind spots and mitigations.

Key Responsibilities :

Clients:

Liaise with the customer, their representatives, and other 3rd parties on commercial issues.

Initiates valuable business relationships and works to ensure they are developed effectively.

Professionally network drawing on these contacts to support business objectives.

Proposes actions in response to changes in client and stakeholder needs and expectations.

Work Winning:

Identify unacceptable terms and conditions and negotiate contracts with clients and employers (including CRC).

Identify unacceptable wording in bonds, warranties, and other guarantees.

Identify contractual & commercial work winning strategies including analysis of risk and opportunity.

Take an active role in setting tender direction, and alignment of win themes during PQQ and tender phase

Project Delivery

Cost and value management, ensuring appropriate systems and procedures are in place.

Responsible for the quality of financial reporting for projects and portfolios that make up the BU.

Enhance change management systems and processes for projects & portfolios including recording change and allocating responsibilities.

Identify and evaluate recovery options for any non-client change (including recovery from 3rd parties.

Supervises the preparation of Cost Plans for complex projects, using a range of cost-planning techniques and software, and manages the compilation of data to permit various analyses.

Interrogate and manage project cost report raw data and provide analysis that can inform key decisions

Prepares long-term cash forecasts for complex projects, monitors results, and interprets reasons for deviations. Uses established techniques to minimise outflow of cash and maximize inflow.

Devises innovative systems to control and monitor direct works and financial performance.

Monthly Reporting

Manage and enhance complex Project Cost Reporting systems, with capacity to interrogate data and trends

Conducts CVR Reporting sessions across Rail business each month, interrogates positions, and makes necessary interventions to mitigate risk and maximize opportunity.

Compiles Rail BU pack (offline) for Rail accounts review meeting each month:

Risk:

Risk and opportunity management for the project. Management (with operations team) of known and newly identified risks and opportunities for best project return and identification and implementation of mitigation.

Manage commercial team to ensure delivery of key responsibilities and develop their knowledge.

Reports risks associated with liability and draft step-down clauses into Sub-Contract/Consultancy Agreements.

Qualifications/Training:

Professional membership to relevant body (or working towards)
