About the role

As an HSE Continuous Improvement Lead you will be responsible for developing a World Class HSE capability for Technology Operations (Tech Ops) and working with stakeholders around the business to ensure that our operational and project teams have the tools, processes and training to achieve the standards we have set.

What you will be doing

Overall, the HSE Continuous Improvement Lead will make a significant contribution to driving a culture of continuous improvement in health, safety, and environmental practices within the organisation, ultimately contributing to the well-being of employees, the community, and the environment. This will be delivered through the following accountabilities:
  • Developing Continuous Improvement Strategies: The lead is responsible for developing and implementing strategies aimed at continuously improving health, safety, and environmental performance across Tech Ops.
  • Risk Assessment and Management: Conducting risk assessments to identify potential hazards and risks within the workplace, and developing strategies to mitigate these risks effectively.
  • Process Optimisation: Analysing existing processes and procedures related to health, safety, and environmental practices, and identifying opportunities for optimisation and efficiency gains.
  • Training and Education: Providing training and educational programs to employees at all levels to ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations and to promote a culture of safety and environmental stewardship.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Establishing key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to monitor the effectiveness of health, safety, and environmental initiatives, and conducting regular evaluations to identify areas for improvement.
  • Compliance Assurance: Ensuring Tech Ops complies with relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations and standards, and staying up-to-date with any changes or updates to these regulations and turning these into role based guidance.
  • Incident Investigation and Analysis: Leading investigations into health, safety, and environmental incidents or near misses, identifying root causes, and implementing corrective and preventive actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborating with internal stakeholders, including management, employees, and relevant departments, as well as external stakeholders such as regulatory agencies, to promote a culture of continuous improvement in health, safety, and environmental practices.
  • Tools, Documentation and Reporting: Maintaining accurate records and documentation related to health, safety, and environmental performance, and preparing reports to communicate progress, achievements, and areas for improvement to relevant stakeholders, supported by the correct tools to make this process efficient.
  • Leading Improvement Projects: Leading or participating in cross-functional improvement projects aimed at enhancing health, safety, and environmental performance, and driving initiatives to address identified gaps or areas for improvement.

To excel as an HSE Continuous Improvement Lead, you will typically require a blend of technical expertise, leadership abilities, and interpersonal skills. Here are the key traits we will be looking for:
  • Technical Knowledge: A solid understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations, standards, and best practices. This includes knowledge of relevant laws, regulations (such as OSHA, EPA), industry standards (ISO 45001, ISO 14001), and risk assessment methodologies.
  • Continuous Improvement Methodologies: Awareness of continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean Six Sigma, Total Quality Management (TQM), PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act), or similar frameworks. This includes the ability to identify opportunities for improvement, implement changes, and measure the effectiveness of those changes.
  • Risk Management: Strong skills in risk assessment, risk management, and hazard identification are necessary to proactively identify and mitigate potential health, safety, and environmental risks across Tech Ops.
  • Analytical Skills: The ability to analyse data, identify trends, and draw actionable insights is important for driving evidence-based decision-making and prioritising improvement initiatives effectively.
  • Project Management: Experience in project management, including planning, execution, and monitoring of improvement projects, is valuable for leading cross-functional teams and ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Experience in HSE Management: Prior experience in health, safety, and environmental management roles, such as HSE coordinator, HSE manager, or similar positions, provides valuable insight into the challenges and complexities of managing HSE programs within an organisation.

Overall, a successful HSE Continuous Improvement Lead possesses a combination of technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and interpersonal skills to drive continuous improvement in health, safety, and environmental practices and promote a culture of safety and environmental stewardship within the organisation.
