Health and Safety Officer Job Overview

Ensure compliance with H&S legislation, regulations, and company policies across all projects.
Site Inspections & Audits: Conduct audits, inspections, and risk assessments, providing detailed reports on findings and improvements.
Work closely with managers to investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, ensuring corrective actions are implemented effectively.
Stakeholder Engagement: Provide expert H&S advice to employees, managers, and directors, promoting a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
Training & Awareness: Support site managers with inductions, toolbox talks, and specialist training, ensuring staff are informed and engaged.
Track and report on H&S performance, accident frequency rates, and compliance statistics, driving data-led improvements.
Ensure subcontractors, plant, and equipment meet all H&S standards and client requirements.

Health and Safety Officer Job Requirements

NEBOSH Construction or General Certificate (or equivalent experience).
Minimum 3 years' experience in a similar H&S role within civil engineering, construction, or rail sectors.
Strong knowledge of risk assessments, auditing, and H&S regulatory frameworks.
Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
Ability to work independently and travel nationwide for site visits and inspections.
Membership of a relevant professional body is desirable.
