What's the Job About?
As a leader of a team of project-based Mechanical Technicians, you'll play a key role in maintaining the integrity of operational systems, ensuring compliance with company standards and statutory requirements, and managing responses to breakdowns.
You will also oversee maintenance tasks across BPA-operated sites, including COMAH storage terminals and pipeline systems. Collaborating with project engineers, you'll ensure operational needs are met, enforce safety standards, manage shutdowns, and address scheduling demands, including emergency works. You will also contribute to mentoring and training discussions with engineers, operations staff, and contractors, ensuring alignment with BPA processes and fostering professional development within the team.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Provide operational support, including emergency response and liaising with authorities, while managing procurement for maintenance and inspections within budget.
- Oversee maintenance, fault finding, and repairs on key systems, including COMAH sites, fuel tanks, pumps, and more, ensuring safe operations through proper certifications and change requests.
- Collaborate with engineering teams on project design, offering safety guidance and practical support to ensure successful outcomes.
- Lead a team of Mechanical Technicians to deliver multimillion-pound projects safely, on time, and within budget, while supporting the development of new staff.
- Drive continuous improvement by addressing component issues, ensuring availability of critical parts, and proposing plant and equipment changes.
- Ensure regulatory compliance, manage audits, inspections, and non-conformities, and oversee high-hazard tasks, including permit management and safety approvals.
What You'll Need - Essential Skills & Experience
- A recognised professional qualification in a relevant mechanical discipline to NVQ level 3 or equivalent.
- Experience in supervising staff and contractors in a relevant environment.
- Strong knowledge and practical experience in maintaining plant and equipment.
- Recent hands-on experience in maintenance and fault finding.
- Numerate with a good command of both written and spoken English.
- Full driving licence.
- COMPEX certification.
Desirable
- HNC/HND or a certified mechanical apprenticeship in a relevant discipline.
- Supervisory maintenance experience in the oil and gas pipeline, storage, or other hazardous process industries.
- Familiarity with safe working practices including COSHH, Confined Space Entry, Lifting Operations, Pressure Vessels, Pipework Systems, Hydraulic Systems, and Workshop Tasks.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- A recognised professional qualification in a relevant electrical discipline (NVQ level 3 or equivalent).
- Hands-on experience in electrical maintenance, fault finding, and supervisory roles within an industrial environment.
- Good communication skills and proficiency in English, both written and oral.
- A full and valid driving licence.

- Basic Salary: £45,000 - £50,000, depending on skills and experience.
- Overtime: Overtime paid at time and a half (x1.5) and double time (x2).
