The Company

This West Midlands based main contractor with a strong regional presence are a privately owned company.  They construct, refurbish, fit out and maintain the built environment. Their teams work together to provide a single source solution for their clients, ensuring that they deliver a broad spectrum of construction, civils, refurbishment & interior fit out projects across their marketplace, from concept to completion.

Reporting into the Directors, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing the achievement of business health, safety, environmental and quality objectives in line with the business Health and Safety and Environmental strategies.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years+ experience in a similar role.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks

Assessing pre-construction information for hazards, risks and suitability of content to enable projects to be prepared.
Preparing Construction Phase Health and Safety Plans for upcoming projects.
Preparing risk assessments and method statements in conjunction with Project Managers and Site Managers.
Monitoring of Health and Safety Administrators to ensure they complete their tasks for upcoming projects.
Liaising with Clients, Principal Designers and CDM Advisors regarding project hazards and the closure of project risk register items.
Preparation of project Operation Manuals, Health and Safety Files and other project hand over documentation. This to include liaison with the Principal Designer, CDM Advisor and project contractors.
Review of contractors risk assessments and method statements prior to works commencing and providing feedback where these do not meet requirements.
Managing contractors with regards to their submittal of project documentation (risk assessments, method statements and project completion documents)
Collation of Project Managers health and safety inspections and reporting on their findings.
Completion of designated projects for the continual improvement of the company health and safety management system.
Any other duties allocated by the Directors.Safety Responsibilities:

Complying with the health and safety arrangements, policy and procedures set out by the company to protect the safety of themselves and others affected by their acts or omissions whilst at work.
Complying with the requirements of health and safety legislation applicable to the role.
Positively contributing towards the successful delivery of strategic health and safety actions that will lead to lower rates of accidents and reduced harm.
Communicating effectively with others to promote an open safety culture
Setting an example to others by working safely at all times.Training, Competencies & Technical Skills: 

NEBOSH Certificate/NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent
Technical Member of IOSH with a desire to work towards Graduate/Chartered Membership of IOSH (Training and Professional Development will be included as part of an ongoing Personal Development Plan)
Proven experience in a Health and Safety Manager or Co-ordinator role (5 years minimum)
Fluent with use of multiple office based software packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.)
Confident and willing to communicate with Senior Managers, Clients and Site Personnel
Have the ability and confidence to provide advice on health and safety matters and provide guidance and support where required.
