Salary: £40 - £55/hour

A multi-year program reviewing the West Midlands Low Risk Debris Screens for the Environment Agency requires a skilled professional to support ongoing work. The project involves managing over 36 screens, which will need removal, replacement, or modification.
 
The position is suitable for a Senior or Principal Engineer level professional. The successful candidate will be required to work from the Birmingham city centre office for three days per week.
 
Preferred qualifications include experience using the EA Standard Object Library in conjunction with Revit. However, experience in designing weed screens for pumping stations is not relevant to this role.
 
The program is expected to be completed by November 2025, so a long-term secondment is anticipated. The initial contract will likely be extended to this date. The preferred start date is October 2024, though an earlier start is negotiable.
 
This position falls inside IR35
 
The ideal candidate should have demonstrable experience in:
 
·Completing Initial Needs Assessments (INA) for debris screens.
·Designing debris screens and platforms (including sizing/fabrication drawings) for open water channels and estuaries in line with CIRIA Guide C786 and LIT 13258. This includes designing inlet, outlet, bypass, and primary screens, whether as individual units or as part of a screen system.
·Conducting hydraulic assessments to evaluate the impact of screen modifications on flows and water levels, and determining the required screen area.
·Implementing bank stabilization using natural materials.
·Producing departure notes and buildability reports for the Environment Agency (EA).
·Creating RAG Lists, DRA, and PSRA documents based on EA templates.
·Developing specifications in accordance with the National Standard Contract and Specification for Surveying Services: Standard Technical Specification, including CCTV surveys.
·Assessing the operational and capital carbon impact of designs.
·Understanding the EA consenting and permitting process, particularly for Flood Risk Activities.
·Applying the EA SHEW Code of Practice.
·Working within a BIM environment and utilizing the EA Data Requirements Library.
·Delivering projects within a reservoir setting and managing the consultation process with the Designated Reservoir Engineer.
·Successfully managing and mentoring others in the above areas.
