Shepherd Neame is excited to be recruiting for an Apprentice Hospitality Team Member to join our community led business.


An exciting opportunity to join the team at The Exchange, Southend. The role is very varied and although hospitality team members tend to specialise in an area, they have to be adaptable and ready to support team members across the business. The most important part of the role is developing fantastic ‘hospitality’ skills and knowledge. Working in a community led business you will work within the team to help innovate and develop the site whilst welcoming everyone with a warm smile.


What will you do as an Apprentice?

  • Shepherd Neame requires someone who is committed, positive and enthusiastic to increasing sales and ensuring the smooth-running operation in our community led business
  • In this role the candidate will always be busy on their feet, re stocking and serving
  • A professional approach to both the daily regular customers and our new ones
  • This level of professionalism is to be expected throughout your daily routine, whilst building and keeping relationships to the forefront of your customer service routine
  • Ensure all required due diligence is completed throughout the working day, ensuring all necessary health and safety standards are met
  • Ensure excellent customer service ensuring all customers are served to a high standard in a friendly and polite manner, work closely with the chef and General manager to promote products to increase sales. Upsell and offer any promotions and meal deals to customers whenever possible
  • Daily cleaning duties
  • Apprentices will have access to an online learning platform & portfolio system

As part of their apprenticeship journey, Level 2 Hospitality Team Member apprentices will attend workshops.

Specialist areas in hospitality include food and beverage service, serving alcoholic beverages, barista, food preparation, housekeeping, concierge and guest services, reception, reservations and conference and banqueting. The most important part of the role is developing fantastic ‘hospitality’ skills and knowledge such as recognising customer needs, knowing how to match them to the products and services of the business and working as part of a team to ensure that every customer, whether they are eating in a restaurant, drinking cocktails in a bar, ordering room service in a hotel or attending a business conference, feels welcomed and looked after. Apprentices will have a coach assigned to them for 1-2-1 sessions at their place of work & for their progress reviews with their line manager.


What do we need from you?

  • The course Length is 12 months, plus up to 3 months for End Point Assessment
  • You will need at least 6 hours per week in paid hours to complete your off-the-job training (On & Off site)
  • You will need to attend training with your tutor or trainer every 4 - 6 weeks

What are my next steps once I complete my apprenticeship?

Once you have successfully completed this level 2 apprenticeship, this may progress into a supervisor or team leader role. Hospitality Supervisor or Team Leader Supervisor Level 3 would be the most suitable apprenticeship course progression.
