We are looking for a highly capable and driven Principal Civil Engineer to lead the delivery of non-infrastructure water sector projects across the UK. This is a strategic technical leadership role, responsible for driving quality, ensuring compliance, and mentoring our engineering team. You will act as a technical authority and project lead, working closely with clients, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure successful project outcomes from feasibility through to detailed design and construction support.

Key Responsibilities

· Lead and oversee the civil design and delivery of water and wastewater treatment projects.

· Design RC elements, foundations, slabs, and associated civil works.

· Produce technical reports, specifications, and construction drawings to industry standards. · Conduct site visits for inspections, surveys, and technical support during construction.

· Provide technical governance, review, and sign-off on design deliverables across multiple projects.

· Develop and implement engineering solutions that are cost-effective, buildable, and compliant with UK standards.

· Guide and mentor senior and junior engineers, developing technical capability across the team.

· Represent RES Design Services in client meetings, design reviews, and technical workshops.

· Coordinate and integrate civil designs with mechanical, electrical, and process engineering disciplines.

· Manage project budgets, programmes, and resource planning in collaboration with project managers.

· Support business development through input to proposals, bids, and strategic planning.

· Drive quality assurance, health & safety, and continuous improvement across all design activities.

· Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry best practice, regulations, and innovations in the water sector.

· Champion a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement within the organisation.

Requirements

· BEng/MEng in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).

· Chartered Engineer (CEng) with relevant professional body (E.g. ICE, IStructE, CIWEM).

· Minimum 10 years' experience in the UK water sector.

· Proven track record in delivering non-infrastructure projects.

· Strong leadership, mentoring, and stakeholder management skill.

· High-level technical competence in civil design, analysis, and construction methodologies

· Excellent understanding of UK design standards, Eurocodes, and water industry regulations.

· Proficient in design tools (e.g., Tekla, TEDDS, STAAD, AutoCAD) and experienced in checking and approving engineering deliverables.

· Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel as required.
