This LCT Strategic Project Manager will report to the Head of Customer Services & Innovation and will work within the Customer Services directorate based in either our London or Ipswich office. You will be a permanent employee.

You will attract a salary of £66,264.00 and a bonus of 7.5%. This role can also offer blended working after probationary period (6 months) - 3 days in the office and 2 remote

Job Purpose:

UK Power Networks is expecting the volumes of low carbon technology to double year on year, driving volumes through our business. You will form part of the Customer Services and Innovation Team and you will lead on the development of the company wide Low Carbon Technology (LCT) strategy. The drivers for change are to support the ever-increasing volumes of new renewable and low carbon technologies wishing to connect to the electricity grid (for example, distributed generation, electric vehicles, energy storage and heat pumps) and their efficient integration to the distribution network.

LCT Performance

  • Deliver industry-leading customer satisfaction in LCT, ensuring that customer satisfaction with LCT services remains above 90%, using internal performance metrics to track and improve service quality.
  • Be recognised by important partners (Ofgem, DSNZ, NIC, and other leading organisations in key customer segments) as the leading DNO for LCT readiness, promoting relationships with regulatory bodies and important partners to be acknowledged as the foremost DNO in preparing for and implementing LCT solutions

LCT Measurement, forecasting and reporting

  • You will define, own and report on LCT performance metrics, mapping forecasts to enquiries, applications and jobs by region and area and monitor actual work and lead times to inform resourcing and trigger uncertainty mechanisms.
  • Manage and measure the volumes of simple versus complex work and identify opportunities for cost efficiencies.

Internal and External Stakeholder Engagement

  • Manage the LCT Customer Forum and other channels to proactively engage with customers.
  • Ensure customer-facing teams are well briefed on our policies relating to LCT Connections across all service areas.
  • Represent UKPN at the ENA LCT Forum and be our voice at other industry LCT events and forums.
  • Prepare and publish detailed reports, consultation responses, white papers, and other communication materials that articulate UKPN's LCT strategy to the public and important partners.

LCT Strategic Project Management

  • Manage the LCT Strategic Project and report to the EMT on progress on a quarterly basis.
  • Lead the development of a long-term strategy for LCTs, ensuring agreement on UKPN's overall goals and the evolving energy landscape.
  • Conduct market research to identify latest trends, technologies, and best practices around regulatory changes that impact LCT implementation, ensuring UKPN's compliance and strategic agreement

Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in engineering or a related field.
  • In-depth understanding of LCTs such as distributed generation, electric vehicles, energy storage, and heat pumps.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the energy sector, including regulatory frameworks and industry standards.
  • In depth knowledge of electricity networks and an understanding of the connections process and LCTs.
  • Awareness of market trends, latest technologies, and best practices in LCT implementation.
  • Develop and explain a long-term strategy for LCTs, aligning with our goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor performance metrics, conduct market research, and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Create concise and persuasive reports, presentations, and public communication materials.
  • Team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
  • Experience in strategic planning, public communication, and partner engagement within the energy or utilities sector, with a focus on low carbon technologies.
