We are seeking an organised and detail-oriented Financial Controller to join a busy and growing start-up, reporting directly to the CEO. The successful candidate will be instrumental in shaping the financial strategy of the organisation. As a Financial Controller, you will review and set strategies for financial interactions with managers and staff, gather and analyse data, and proactively enhance systems and processes to support our global team.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Manage the full cycle of financial operations, including Cashflow, P&L, and Balance Sheet.
  • Provide reporting and insights to senior leaders to inform business direction.
  • Multitask across various legal entities, business models, and levels of work.
  • Collaborate with teams across the company to contribute financial expertise to strategic initiatives and projects.
  • Identify and implement potential improvements in current financial processes.
  • Perform bookkeeping tasks, including data entry, recording receipts and invoices, and reconciling bank statements and expenses.
  • Prepare and complete month-end, quarter-end, and year-end accounting.
  • Conduct financial planning, annual budgeting, and day-to-day cost management.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant financial rules and regulations in the UK and US.
  • Undertake additional duties to meet business needs.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Degree in finance or a related field, with a preference for 3 to 5 years of progressive experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in a startup environment or SMEs, with a focus on scaling up.
  • Proven leadership abilities, including managing and developing finance teams.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to think critically and provide insights to drive business results.
  • Experience in SaaS companies and SaaS reporting is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of accounting practices in the UK, with US knowledge being a plus.
  • Effective communication skills at all levels and the ability to build trusted relationships.
  • Proficiency in finance systems and accounting software applications, with Xero being a plus.
  • ACCA, ACA, or CIMA certifications in the UK and CPA or CFA in the US are a plus.
