IT Infrastructure and Security Manager

Cullompton

Reporting to the Head of Technology, this is an influential role responsible for leading the delivery of technology infrastructure, cloud services, networks and cyber security solutions to the group and our workforce of more than 3,000 people. It combines IT governance and team management (4x FTE) with hands-on delivery and execution.

The role is based at our Cullompton site but with responsibility group-wide and therefore occasional travel to other locations will be required. It's a particularly exciting time to join us as we embark upon a major business transformation programme with a focus on digitalisation, cloud adoption and a planned public cloud migration.

The position involves:

Team leadership (25%)

  • Leading, motivating and developing a team responsible for delivering Infrastructure, Cloud Services, Networks and Cyber Security solutions for the group.
  • Managing varying and conflicting priorities of stakeholders / projects and prioritising the workload of the team accordingly.
  • Taking ownership of major incidents and working with stakeholders across the Technology team and wider business to drive to resolution.
  • Working across the wider Technology team supporting other managers with delivery of the wider Technology roadmap across Solutions, Integration, Data Services and Software Development.
  • Developing and maintaining an open and progressive culture of customer focus with alignment to the Group Purpose and championing the Gregory Way.

Strategy and governance (25%)

  • Contributing to the ongoing evolution of our strategic roadmap across Infrastructure, Cloud Services, Networks, Cyber Security and Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery and owning the execution of this strategy within the Technology function.
  • Leading on the continuous improvement of our information security, business continuity and disaster recovery strategies - including the development and update of policies, plans and procedures as well as the governance to routinely test them.
  • Responding to IT security due-diligence requests and audits and acting as an authority internally on matters relating to IT Security.
  • Managing change in accordance with Group Change Management processes - including as an approver on our Change Approval Board.
  • Taking an active role in supplier management of relevant Technology suppliers and partners.

Hands-on delivery (50%)

  • As part of the team, delivering our strategic roadmap along with ongoing maintenance, monitoring, optimisation and security of:
    • Infrastructure services including a dual-site on-premises core infrastructure environment (VMware) and growing cloud estate (Azure) comprising PaaS, IaaS and SaaS.
    • A predominantly Windows Server OS environment hosting a multitude of infrastructure services, line-of-business applications and various database technologies including SQL Server.
    • 50+ site Local Area Networks comprising Cisco Catalyst or Meraki switching and Meraki Access Points.
  • Group Wide Area Network comprising Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN with various underlay technologies (Ethernet, FTTP, SOGEA, LTE, Starlink) and Fortigate firewalls.
  • Desktop services including Backup, Endpoint Protection, group standard PC/Laptop builds, managed print.
  • Domain services including Active Directory, WSUS, File Shares, Users and Groups, GPO.
  • Cloud services such as Entra and Microsoft 365 including Exchange Online, Teams, Onedrive, Sharepoint and Office Applications.
  • Mobile services for corporate mobility including Mobile Device Management for mostly Android-based devices with some iOS.
  • Security solutions such as internet security, web application firewalls, patch management, risk/vulnerability management, managed detection and response and managed security awareness.
  • Site IOT solutions including CCTV, Sensors, Access Control, T&A Terminals and warehouse automation solutions.
  • Optimise solutions to reduce overall cyber and business continuity risk cost-effectively.
  • Contributing to the resolution of 3rd line Incidents and Service Requests from business users and managing flow of inbound tickets across the team appropriately.
  • Supporting new sites, changes and closures.
  • Participation in out of hours callout/escalation procedures.
  • Carrying out system maintenance including firmware updates and patching as well as change deployments, with some out of hours work required to do so.

Essential Skills:

  • Minimum of 4 years' broad IT Infrastructure experience across virtualised server environments, networking and cloud with a range of technologies/vendors - alignment to any of those mentioned above as well as any relevant Azure certifications would be an advantage.
  • Demonstrable line management and team leadership experience.
  • Demonstrable experience with Microsoft modern workspace technologies including Entra and 365 services.
  • Demonstrable public cloud experience, ideally Azure but AWS and GCP also considered.
  • Demonstrable understanding of ITIL principles.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely at all levels within organisation.
  • Full UK Driving Licence as travel will be required for this role.
