We're looking for a driven Senior Highway Engineer in Design and Regulation to join our Strategic Infrastructure Directorate here at Calderdale Council. Job Description

As Senior Highway Engineer, Design, the focus is on the provision of specialist technical highway improvement design. The purpose of this role is to ensure effective designs are investigated and implemented, including suitable project planning and delivery and advising elected members and other stakeholders as required.You will be required to lead on the preparation of design solutions according to project briefs and take a key role in the liaising with clients to achieve quality and cost effective design solutions and ensure compliance with CDM Regulations. You will assist the Team Leader with the delivery and management of the service, service objectives and priorities relevant to Highway Improvement planning issues associated with Section 278 & 38 agreements.You will produce and provide ongoing budget monitoring for active projects to ensure projects and schemes are delivered within budget.As part of the role you will need to lead in engaging with the Council's external highway design consultants, working together to ensure designs are suitable and comply with design codes, council policies and highway regulations.

The Successful Applicant

A background in Highways Engineering Design, project management, design, stakeholder engagement, budget management and strong analytical and communication skills would be ideal for this role.

  • A competent Highway Engineering Professional with a background in Structural Engineering Design associated Highway Structures.
  • A Degree in Construction & Built Environment such as Civil Engineer, Asset Management, Electrical Engineering or Structural Engineering or similar relevant experience.
  • Must hold a full UK driving licence
  • You might be a member of a professional body such as ICE / IHE IStructE but this is not essential
  • Experience of designing Highway Engineering projects and experience of DMRB
  • Demonstrate the ability to assess and decide on interventions on design approach in dealing with wide range of structural issues associated with the highway
  • Understanding of the Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of Structural Engineering Design in accordance with relevant codes of practice (Reinforced Concrete, Steel and Masonry).
  • Project and design management, organisation, budget management and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • An understanding of local authority or public sector procurement processes and regulations would be an advantage
  • An excellent communicator at all levels, with managing senior stakeholder relationships, customer and public facing communication and leading project teams.
  • Ability to use AutoCAD to a basic level.

What's on Offer

This role offers a starting salary of £43,421 at Grade P09. This salary is subject to a Pay Award, so there will be an increase from that amount which is yet to be confirmed. The salary will increase in increments up to top of the band at Grade P012 which is £46,464. Benefits on offer include:
